Pre-bowl Poll era: 1936-1967 (from the first AP Poll until annually releasing a Poll after bowl games)

1. 1952 - 12-0 (Natty & Sugar Bowl Win)
2. 1951 - 11-0-1 (Un Claimed Natty & Orange Bowl Win)
3. 1956 - 10-1 (Un Claimed Natty & Gator Bowl Win)
4. 1947 - 10-1 (Orange Bowl Win)
5. 1955 - 9-1-1 ( Sugar Bowl Win)
6. 1953 - 9-2-1 (Sugar Bowl Win)
7. 1966 - 9-2 (Orange Bowl Loss)
8. 1946 - 9-2 (Oil Bowl Win)
9. 1939- 8-2 (Co-SEC Title & Orange Bowl)
10. 1943- 8-3 (SEC Title & Sugar Bowl Win)

Absurd that the AP didn't give us the 1952 NC, and instead gave it to a 10-0 MSU team that didn't even play in a bowl game. I know bowl games didn't count then, but they were 10-0, while we were 11-0 regular season.
Again 2 "un-claimed" Natty's. I think Tenn (our only loss) won it in 1956, so there was really nothing to claim. And the tie with the damn dookies probably kept us from at least having a claim for it in 1951.

First - 1952 equals Politics... We had five polling services vote for us. The probelm it was only a 2 team race that year and all other polling services voted for Michigan State... However the Georgia Tech AA claims 1952 as they should since they went 12-0 while Mich State did not win 12..

Second 1951 -saw 5 teams at the top adn GT had only 2 of the (Like 20) votes not enough to make a claim.

Third 1956- Oklahoma was unbeatan and deserves the title, but three 1 loss teams had some votes (GT had 2, Iowa 1, Tenn 1) which some is all you need to make a claim. Again the GTAA has decided not to claim 56 since Oklahoma went unbeaten.

Fourth the Pre-bowl Poll era: 1936-1967 was a great thirty years for Georgia Tech Football.

Oh, so OU was awarded it in '56, and not Tenn? I guess my memory failed me on that one. I DO remember, however, that the '56 Tech - Tenn game was considered for a long time the best college football game in modern history.

There are far too many supposedly very proud programs with retroactive claims to national titles that are much more absurd then ours in 1956 and especially in 1951.

There is a lot to be gained by officially claiming those titles since they are recognized by the NCAA. It takes a little shamelessness, but when everybody else has already done it (take a look around the SEC, especially Georgia in 1942 which they didn't start claiming until the late 80s, half of Bama's and Tennessee titles), we should be too.

As an aside to that - wonder how many know that a member of that 52 msu team would later become the AD at GT?

I found that subsequent to my original question about it. I had totally forgotten about Weaver, as well as a couple of other ADs we have had through the years.
