I want to see him do well. Former Jacket and all that. But I've seen enough to know I don't want him to coach for us.

Same with a lot of perineal losers who bounce from one gig to another. Amazingly, coaching is a job you don't even have to be particularly good at to make a ton of money.

He's football lifer - he's got a lot of respect in coaching circles. He hasn't had any sustained success as a DC, but that doesn't mean he's hot garbage. I would be very surprised if he doesn't end up somewhere as a position coach or analyst.

he isn’t a good DC, I’ll give you that. I disliked his passive, “keep it all in front” type of defensive design. Perhaps during the last era of “pro style”, 3/5 step drops, waiting for the offense to make a mistake during a drive was viable. But this era is spread heavy. Allowing teams to complete underneath and try to tackle short is a recipe to give up a lot of points. Give them the easy throws and they will take it and drive for a TD most times.

That being said, count me in as someone that would have him back as a linebacker coach. He was probably one of the best recruiters we had when he was here, and the man obviously has some type of knowledge if he keeps getting hired. I’m sure we are one of the only places he would take a demotion like that. But I also get the desire to move on and be done with it.

Actually I felt like this is fairly common in the private sector as well. Oddly enough, more frequently at the senior executive level than in the lower ranks. Always noticeable by the frequent stops on their resume and especially so with their use of jargon and buzzwords. This isn't just limited to the coaching fraternity.

Let me clarify my thoughts on it - I do not want us to hire him. But given his reputation, I'm sure someone will take a flyer on him.

Firing a brand new DC 8 games into the season when the defensive FEI has actually improved over last season feels like a desperate move by a Head Coach that isn't going to be around much longer.

I wouldn't call going from DC to analyst or recruiting specialist failing up. I'm one who has defended Roof in the past but do not want him back as a DC or on field coach. I do think there is potential value in him as a recruiter for GT.

Malzahn is delegating play calling to his OC. UCF named an interim DC.

Offense might be a bigger issue there.

Also, Malzahn’s wife is sick, or so I read, and he’s not as focused on football as he’s been. Roof isn’t the sole factor in their troubles. It could be more about Malzahn.
