Now that's one of best ideas I have heard. Given we know (has been admitted) that there's human bias with referees, I still think first down spots are one of biggest subjective areas that could easily be fixed (same with goal line - aka JT5's score on dwags - until thug Swan stole it like a moped after the play was over)

With cameras being so cheap....it seems it would be easy to set stationary ones on each side of the goal line on each end. Then have ones that move with the line to gain spot. Or, use a positioning device that reads the chips in the ball and uses triangulation to spot its position.

The NFL has tested cameras in the pylons at the goal line: http://www.si.com/si-wire/2012/09/12/nfl-network-pylon-cameras-replay-officials and the WWL tested them in the national championship game: http://ftw.usatoday.com/2015/01/espn-pylon-cam-national-championship

Here is some footage from the pylon cameras: http://247sports.com/Bolt/Watch-Footage-from-pylon-cameras-at-national-title-game-34807701
