I like AJ's steps up and the safety roll over. The Nickle rolls over to get into position well.

Pat starts with a double team and is the reason he is a few yards back.

Step, AJ, and the DE close the outside forcing the give. KY did a good job putting a hat on the right people. Pat was able to shed his block to make the tackle.

PJ sheds his block and is in position to tackle or force into Pat. He gets pushed in the back by KY.

The Nickel man does a good job of playing safety net if the runner broke through.

Good breakdown. I'd like to see Brant a little stronger at the point of attack - strong block by their H-Back there. You're right about Pat, and a good recovery by him. We had the numbers to be successful there from the beginning - 8 defenders in the box, 8 offensive players to account for. If the QB counts, then it's 9 and we're at a disadvantage, though the safety was able to come up and play the run as well to keep us even. The fake was poor, taking away from the offensive advantage. The motion man didn't really have to be accounted for so it's back to 8 vs 8: we should win that battle, and pretty much did.

Even Brant was not as strong at the point of attack than many of us would like, he worked well in the framework of the defense as "spill player" (taking a block on inside shoulder of the blocker with intent of having the ball carrier bounce out to the force player)
And making the guy redirect his path to the trash of the defense

Yeah, we gave a little ground, but overall our guys look to be in the right "fits" on this play so that there weren't any creases available.
