Let's talk about travel. We have a good variety of destinations this year.

Away schedule:
  • @ Clemson, Thurs, Aug 29... Greenville, SC
  • @ Temple, Sat, Sept 28... Philadelphia, PA
  • @ Duke, Sat, Oct 12... Raleigh/Durham, NC
  • @ Miami, Sat, Oct 19... Miami, FL
  • @ Virginia, Sat, Nov 9... Charlottesville, VA

Where do you plan to follow the Jackets?
Any good stories from years past?
Your recommendations while in town?

Went to Miami two years ago. Really enjoyed my time there went to the keys. Sat 20 rows behind the bench for less than $60 a ticket. Only thing that sucked was there was probably only 300 tech fans (minus) the band in the stadium.

We went to Clemson 2 years ago drove up 4 hours before the start and got tickets for 15 bucks a piece. Rainy cold night. Not fun.

Last year we went to Blacksburg. That was a DELIGHT. We loved the drive and the town. Very much a college town feel. Great food, great scenery and the campus itself is beautiful. Didn't hurt that we ran on them with little mistake and crushed the Hokies. There were great fans who were more than helpful. I almost felt bad that we won! (Almost).

This year we plan on going to either the Duke, or Virginia game.
I want to go to the Clemson game, but it may be a little tough with our schedule.

Our plan is to go to one away game every year. Somewhere new every year.

My how things have changed. Even the women weren’t 165 pounds back in the day unless you got a hold of them within a few weeks of stepping on campus.
Man... I haven't been 165 since MAYBE the 7th grade lol. I've been 5'9-5'10, 180-250 since the 8th grade. Height didn't increase only the weight haha.

Heading to Charlottesville and Durham this year. UVA has a beautiful campus and Durham always produces a cheap ticket! Last time I went to Charlottesville to watch Tech, the locals were super nice and definitely bonded over our shared hatred of Va Tech.

Tentatively Clemson and UVA. I’ve been dying to go to Death Valley for the longest time and an opening game, new coach, banner night, national TV game seems like the time to do it. I also anticipate us bringing loads of folks if the spring game was any indication of people’s excitement. The hype should be worth the experience even if we get slaughtered by the end of the evening.

As for UVA, I toyed with the idea of renting an RV on an Airbnb-esque site and road tripping up for a long weekend with a few friends. That’s definitely not any of our scene but the prices seemed reasonable and I would love to get back to Charlottesville. Beautiful town, especially in the fall. Great wineries and cideries, hiking in Shenandoah, beautiful campus, great stadium (have only been outside it on a non gameday), golf, etc - you name it.

Temple would be fun just because I love Philly, but there are few worse atmospheres in college football and it’s out of conference so means a little less to me, personally.

UVA and Clem are great trips, done them both. Virginia good if you’re traveling with your wife, great stuff to do around town so make a long weekend of it. Clemson is more of a guys trip really, more football focused, tailgating, game day, get drunk and stay in a camper. Rent a place on the lake for the weekend if you’re traveling with a lady friend, she’ll prefer it over option 1. Thursday game sucks, so I won’t be going this year.

Last year my daughter and I hit VT, UNCheat, and Cesspool. 2 out of 3 were enjoyable. The VT environment was one of the best I have seen.

This year I'm hitting Clemson and hopefully tying in Duke with some golf in the Pinehurst area.

VT environment is improving as their expectations decline. Went to the 2010 game there and they had some real backwoods fans who seemed to be waiting all year to mix things up with opposing fans.

Yeah last year there were as many "rough necks" but they were rather nice.

Just got back from visiting family in Atlanta, but am seriously considering coming back for the Clemson game.
I have a couple of close friends who are Clemson guys, one of them has a lake house on Lake Hartwell.
Been to Clemson many-many times and is always a good time driving up Friday afternoon and staying over the weekend at the lake, even when I have to sit with them in a sea of orange ...
