He isn't simply looking for large donors. At the FSU game in 2022 and Ole Miss game last year he was walking up and down the GT visitors section talking to and shaking hands with everyone that he could before the game, until he ran out of time. Not saying that he doesn't spend more time with large donors, but he tries to engage with everyone. I think the openness and ability to connect with people helps, with small donors and large donors alike. When you meet him, he comes across as a guy who you believe can lead the athletic association. He has what in music or acting would be called the "it" factor. This is encouraging for our future. J. Batt doing what he was hired to do.
From the link: "...nearly 90% came in the form of non-seat related gifts, including more than 20 gifts of $1 million or more." This compares to $22M total the prior year, which itself was a relatively good year.
Where is he finding these donors? Definitely wasn't me although I try to give generously by my standards.

Shattered the previous record by a long shot. Hats off to J Batt.
I signed up for the Alumni tailgate at the bowl game last year and had the opportunity to shake Batt's hand and tell him he's doing a great job. I don't know how long he was there but he was shaking hands and talking to whoever approached him.He isn't simply looking for large donors. I am encouraged by Batt’s efforts to expand our donor base, but I think it’s likely that the 80/20 rule still applies. When Stansbury was let go, and Batt was hired, I heard there was an emphasis to get away from being too dependent on GT's usual mega donors who have historically had too large of a say in the Athletic Department. We saw some of the "bad" in depending on a small number of large donors when Batt and Cabrera searched for our head football coach. You guys can relive the drama in the old coaching search thread.
Overall, growing GT's source of donors and revenue is nothing but good for us. It's great seeing the tangible results a short period after Batt was hired. Now imagine how much more fruitful it will be in a few years after Batt has deepened his roots in the GT and Atlanta business community, and Key/Stoudamire are winning consistently. Remember, it hasn't been long since Batt was hired.
Obviously our Get Bak coach has too much disposable income...Amirite???
Yes and this is fundraising 101. The basic idea is a crowd effect. Big donors like to feel like they are part of a general commitment by the entire fan base. The more money you get from the regular Tech fan, the more money they feel they can - and ought to - give. There's also the economy; if the country had tipped into a recession, as many predicted, there wouldn't be as many big, fat, willing hands around. He isn't simply looking for large donors. What a great idea for replacing " money down" ! Dress up 12 frat guys in the student section for the tv shot on third down.Living in that van down by the river frees up a lot of donatable cash.
That would be a lot better than showing "ghetto jacket" on those shots. I personally find the guy to be an insult to GT and the vibrant area where it is located. Techwood Homes were plowed under almost 40 years ago. What a great idea for replacing " money down" ! Dress up 12 frat guys in the student section for the tv shot on third down.
