Those of us as fans and those of us on message boards learn some things about our QB candidates, but on an every day basis coaches on the field (in this case CPJ and input from his coaches) see and hear things that folks on the sidelines, in the stands, or on message boards are not privilaged to. This information over a period of time, including how the other players react to a particular QB, will determine CPJ's selection for a QB. When that happens we should all trust and accept that as the best choice for the team and we should get 100% behind our coach and selected QB. Fortunately for us message board junkies the talent this year will yield no bad selection. Just relax and let it happen.

Good point. If we followed Danny's advice and all of a sudden started thinking that the coaches somehow were indeed smarter than us when it comes to personnel, schemes, recruiting, play calling, etc. then the message boards would cease to exist. Not saying that the internet would collapse. Shopping without paying taxes AND free shipping is awesome!

Clever response. Thanks. I'm not fretting about the QB situation because I know there will be a good outcome, whatever it is. However I am putting in my off season work worrying about the PAT/FG kicker and holder, the LB play, and the OL backups where the outcome is way more uncertain..

Or, the ever popular dissection and parsing of each syllable that the coach(es) say. What does "Player x did some good things today" really mean? That X was on time for practice? Cleaned his plate? Or is it coachspeak for X is going to be the best player at Tech since Billy Lothridge? Those are the best offseason discussions imo.

So you're a specialist then. We always need people that concentrate on a small number of areas. I'm more of a big picture worrier myself. Earlier today, I was looking at long range weather forecast and hot dog prices on the commodities market.

Never. If my guy is not in there then the coach is wrong. That's how a message board works, you know.

I hope not, that's a cliche thing. Dashaun Watson did it last year every time Clemson scored as well.

ToP is not just about offense. The big reason we dominated the ToP in the first half is because the average length of VTs possessions was 1.26.

Also, we scored 3 TDs against VT. Those possessions lasted 1.38 and netted a total of 21 points.
We also had 5 drives that took an average of 4.49 that netted a total of 9 points

ToP is severely overblown.

It generally is in modern football. I would offer a caveat. When your team is down a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter and you are facing a triple option offense. Well, let's just say it doesn't look too good. Also, if your quarterback is cooling his heels watching that option grind out the first downs he is more than likely going to press and try to get it all back at once. A Virginia Tech fan said it best: "The triple option is where fourth quarters go to die"

Another thing I just thought of that gives MJ a leg up: more options (plays). We may not need more than 5 or 6 plays, but we may need a whole lot more, who knows? I think MJ gives us a much higher percentage of the playbook than any other qb.

So if I'm reading the right you are saying we run more than 1 run play and 1 pass play? I'm so confused, all the other fan bases say it should be easy to stop us because we only run one play the entire game.

I know your being funny, but I thought more about the MJ advantage. He gives us more plays for two reasons. One: he's been here a long time and just knows the playbook way better than the other guys. Two: he gives us the inside power running game in addition to the other aspects the other qb's can do.

I know he has some weaknesses, too, like he's not super elusive, he's not gonna avoid too many free-run blitzers. However, he's not gonna take very many losses because he so good at seeing a crease and getting everything out of it. He also tends to lock onto the primary receiver and miss the guy running wide open on the other side, but JT did that, too. He's more comfortable keeping when there's more to be had with a late pitch. He's also had difficulty seeing and exploiting the backdoor running lane on pass plays. But he's smart and can learn that in film review.
