Interested to see how y’all see the lineup playing out this year. I’m encouraged by the depth we’ve been building over the past couple years, but there’s a lot of interchangeable parts and some question marks too. Especially interested to see what everyone thinks about freshmen breaking the 2-deep and how we will get the best athletes on the field together at the same time.

BB : Benson, Howard
AB: Lynch, Mason
AB: Qua, Cottrell
OT: Lee, Morgan
OG: Braun,
C : Cooper, Ivemeyer
OG: Bryan, Morgan
OT: Marshall,
WR: Camp,
WR: Stewart, Dolphus

Defense
NT: KCH, Martin (wag)
DE: Branch,
DE: Anree, Merriweather
OLB: Vic, Curry
ILB: Mitchell
ILB: Swilling
OLB: Quez,
CB: Simmons, Swilling
CB: Kerr,
SS: Campbell,
FS: Johnson,

A lot of these are just wild *** guesses. Based in large part on post practice comments during spring. And I left a lot of blanks up there.

I think a lot of our success on O will be determined up front. Will we play guys at spots we want them at or where we need them at due to injuries / depth?

On D. How will the NT shake out? No one in the spring seemed to claim the job outright. That’s a little troubling. Will we be able to get a decent rush off the edge? Will our smaller DEs get caught up in the wash inside? Do we have enough athleticism and size at OLB to rush the QB, cover TEs, and stuff runs? (I see a lot of tweeners that might do one but maybe not the others)

Will any freshmen make an impact? I see a couple of possibles at backer in Dingle and Domineck.

Good list, thanks for the input. I’m really excited about the secondary this year. Seems like we have a full house back there so I’m curious to see if/ how much askew, bonds, ko, Charlie Thomas etc get in there. It will be nice having a little bit more size with some of those guys on the field.

I agree wth most of Whisky's choices. I think the OL will depend on a) Marshall returning to the ranks and b) DeFoor becoming eligible. If both return, then we have a solid #2 OT at both sides in DeFoor. If no Marshall and DeFoor is available, there are several options. Will could move out to OT and DeFoor takes over at OG or DeFoor moves in at OT to replace Marshall. If Marshall and no DeFoor, then we'll see what Whisky has foreseen.

Problem = what if neither player is available? Then we have to hope that Clark, Quinney, and The Twins are ready to go. I have more hope for Clark and Quinney moving into starting roles then The Twins, but they've been hurt so much it's hard to say. I think that with no Marshall or DeFoor, Will moves to OT and Clark takes over at guard, but that's based on some very sketchy evidence. I sincerely hope this isn't what happens. With either DeFoor or Marshall we are ok; with both of them we are even better. That's what I'm hoping for right now.

Update: Just saw that DeFoor is eligible! That makes everything easier. Now let's hope Marshall gets well enough to play.

We really need Andrew Marshall to come through. Our issues maintaining depth at OT are unbelievable.

Just in the past 2 years:

Sticker
Marshall (hopefully back this year)
Klock
Griffin
Fromayan

Good post and fine list on offense.

Defense is going to be a mix master for first 3 games ( all the better for Clemson to try and plan).

On AB , propose a split on snaps as follows: "lynch (sr) 70%, qua(sr) 60%, Cottrel 50% and mason 20%. Lynch is very good in all phases. Qua pass catching is best of ab . If he has muscled up, he could be a beast running and blocking. If so up to 70%.

Could be a good year for the offense if it is a very good year for ab.

I think mason may not get much pt . In 17 cottrell (jr) had most of the long gains made by ab.

Lets not discuss qb split time!

QB: Marshall, Johnson
BB: Benson, Howard
AB: Searcy, Lynch, Cottrell, Jarrett
WR: Camp, Stewart, Dolphus, Sanders
OT: Lee, Marshall, Bryan, Defoor
OG: Bryan, Braun, Hansen, Morgan

DE: Branch, Owens, Saint-amour, Dawson
OLB: Henderson, Alexander, Thomas,
ILB: Swilling, Mitchell, Quez Jackson, Curry

I think some guys are interchangeable on the OL, OLB, and S positions.

Others who could end up fighting for playing time.

OL: Minihan, Clark, Iveymyer, Quinney
WR: Anderson, Carter
BB/AB: Mason (I think he will fight for a good amount of playing time)
AB: Gantt

LB: Dingle, Domineck, Johnson
DL: Merriweather, Glanton, Griffin, Chimedza
CB:King
S: Johnson, Jameah Thomas

K: King
P: Harvin

I have not the slightest idea although Whiskey Clear's chart seems pretty reasonable. One caveat, though, the word "depth" should be used sparingly, if at all, in connection with Georgia Tech football although I will make an exception for B back.

If I’m not mistaken curry is playing inside and Quez is definitely playing inside. Henderson will probably start at OLB imo, had to good of a spring from my understanding.

AB: Lynch, Jarrett, Mason
AB: Qua, Cottrell
OT: Lee, Clark, Defoor/Ivemeyer/Quinney
OG: Braun, Hansen
C : Cooper, Lee/Marshall/Lagod
OG: Bryan, B. Morgan
OT: Marshall, Bryan
WR: Camp, Hawkins-Anderson
WR: Stewart, Dolphus

Notes: The OL is still very fluid and will likely change day to day throughout fall camp depending on injuries. With Marshall back to full form, I expect him to start at OT. However, if he is rusty or not able to play, expect Bryan to move to OT and B. Morgan to start at OG (he started here in the Spring with Marshall out). Lee also started to play some Center, so he could be a potential starter if Cooper is injured still.

Defense
NT: KCH, Martin, Adams
DE: Branch, Glanton
DE: Anree, Merriweather
OLB: Vic, J. Johnson
ILB: Mitchell, Q. Jackson
ILB: Swilling, T. Jackson/Curry
OLB: Henderson, C. Thomas
CB: J. King, Simmons
CB: Kerr, Swilling
S: Campbell/J. Thomas, Showell
S: Carpenter, J. Johnson/Oliver

Notes: Just like the OL, S and OLB are very fluid and we will probably see several players bouncing back and fourth. Jalen Johnson will likely be one of those players, and I expect him to play OLB primarily given the depth at S. Two key players coming in are Jaylon King and Juanyeh Thomas. According to the coaches, both have more athleticism than we have seen on defense in a while. I expect both to play this year and potentially fight for a starting job. Jaylon seems most likely, since we are not as deep at CB.

There's one other aspect of this that I had forgotten and that makes Marshall's return more important.

Cooper isn't scheduled to be over his recuperation until after the season starts. (Or am I mistaken? That's what I remember.) Marshall was our #2 center for two years until he moved to OT. If Kenny isn't ready - forbid it, oh, Football Gods - then we could move Marshall over to center for the time being and put DeFoor or Clark in at OT . We wouldn't lose much from that switch, imho, unless Cooper isn't ready for Clemson. Other, if Marshall isn't available, we get pretty thin at center until Cooper is back.

Bottom line = get well, Andrew!

I have heard they think Lee could be a good Center and like him there a lot (potentially more than Marshall even). If Cooper is not projected to play at the beginning, my bet is they move Lee to Center for Fall Camp and play Bryan and Marshall at OT. If Cooper and Marshall are both out, we are screwed and could potentially bust our season depending on the length of impact. The other concern is whether they play the same when they get back. For Marshall, taking a year off from playing is bound to cause a decline...its just a matter of how much and how fast he can get back to speed.

I think (and this is just pure speculation on my part) that the offensive line being "very fluid" is part of the problem. Put Will at guard where he belongs and let the tackles sort themselves out. Guys that want to play can take it upon themselves to get better over the summer and compete come fall.

IMO we won’t be two deep at both OLB spots but it will more than likely be the top 3 OLB’s who get playing time. Whoever is the 3rd best will rotate between the two OLB spots to get the best on the field. Same with DE, S, and ILB. That’s not to say only 3 guys will play at a specific position, but I don’t see it being a “traditional” 2 deep. Kinda the same thing we see on the OL.

I think we're going to end up primarily using two different types of OLB, one more of a pass-rusher like Vic and the other a hybrid safety / coverage guy.

I think we got guys to play at both.
