Odds and Ends of Sports History

I have stumbled across several odd little tidbits of sports history recently and thought it would be fun to start a thread where we can share whatever little odd stories we stumble upon. Please share your favorites!

So in 1948, Wofford College finished the season unbeaten with a record of 4-0-5. They are the only team in history to tie 5 games in a row!

This may be the greatest sports statistic of all time imo. Scottie Sceffler finished the year on the PGA tour with a 68 scoring average, the lowest of all time. If you don't play golf this may be of no significance but for me... this ranks up there with Wilt's 100 point game, the back to back no-hitters by Johhny VanderMeer, or Jack's 18 majors. Things that we will never see again in our lifetime imo.

The 1899 Sewanee Tigers football team is considered one of the best college football teams of all time. The team, nicknamed the "Iron Men", won all 12 of their games, including five shutouts in a six-day period while traveling by train. The team's accomplishments include:


Outscoring opponents 322–10



Winning the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAA) title

Playing a remarkable schedule that included a 2,500-mile train trip to play five games in six days
