No GT Players selected for Preseason All ACC Team

If there was a 2nd team offense, Tech would have probably had half of it. King, Haynes, Singleton, Williams, Fusile are all arguably 1st team quality players. And Faulkner is arguably the best OC. I’d put our offense up against anybody in the acc.

I would not have expected there to be but maybe the quarterback and an offensive lineman. Kind of hard to get recognition with 17 teams in the conference stretching from coast to coast. Certainly not anyone on defense.

Yeah, this is it, imho. And it will only get worse as the news people try religiously to get the picks to rotate by team. A lot of this is because the folks involved know, like, next to nothing about football. They know who was good last year and they know who is reputed to have the best talent, but they don't know much about the Xs and Os. This showed up a lot in Paul's day; Tech would run over other teams regularly and none of the OLs got recognized until Shaq during the 2014 season. To some extent I get that; learning about football is hard and especially the case when the team involved is using an unfamiliar offense. But not seeing anything much for guys like Uzzi ticked me off.

And now, as I said, it'll be even worse.

We had a lot of very good OL during those years, they were just talented at executing a system that few ran requiring fire out run blocking, not standing up and playing handsies with DL. Any of them could have handled pass pro reasonably well had they spent the time being coached to do so, but they didn’t, so they couldn’t.

Lots of people that watch the ACC are high on LaMiles Brooks. I’m sure he was getting votes at safety

I spent this week watching several games from last year including Clemson but also Bowling Green, Miami, UNC, Wake Forest, and Duke. Every time I watched a game my bewilderment increased. Miami had clearly better players, more yardage, and all kinds of opportunities to put that game away and they blew it. A fumble and two breakdowns in what had been a very tight pass defense led to a typical Cane debacle. Clemson we were totally dominated in every phase of the game. It looked like men against boys with our vaunted offensive line being abused. The only thing that concerns me about this coming season is that the best player on defense, IMHO, Kennard has left. It is going to be hard to replace him. That guy played hard every game and nearly every time I watched him. We will see but I would not be surprised to see that offensive line spark another up and down the field performance by Jamal, Haynes and the boys. Defense? I don't know...what's that?

I really liked Kyle, but he was good for at least 1 15-yard penalty every couple of games (if not more often), and in big situations.

Funny you say that. I just watched a game from 2001. Thursday night game in Atlanta against UNC. UNC had Julius Peppers and an experienced secondary along with the usual talent at linebacker. They had won 5 in a row with Herbstreit and Coach singing their praises. Tech had George Godsey, Joe Burns, Jonathan Smith, Kelley Campbell, and Kerry Watkins. Joe Burns had a game for the ages and Tech had a freshman tackle named Nat Dorsey who kept Peppers out of the backfield. For the fourth time in a row, Tech beat them. This was the same team that had thrown away the Maryland game and lost two overtime games. Remarkable how well we sometimes play against both Miami or North Carolina.
