You didn’t hear this from me...listen carefully to the last part of White & Gold...
online versions appear to have folks chanting go jackets at the end
I found lyrics but don't remember ever hearing them
.
Up with the white and gold
Down with the red and black
Georgia Tech is out for a victory
Well drop a battle axe on georgia’s head
When we meet her our team is sure to beat her
Down on the old farm there will be no sound
‘Till our bow wows rips through the air
When the battle is over georgia’s team will be found
With the Yellow Jacket’s swarming ‘round! Hey!

Geez, finally heard it , more toward the middle and background it seemed
not the same as just standing up and singing dixie
.. idid know they substituted the bud song
from being at an emerald bowl (maybe 04 or 05 ) that made me wanna puke
Oh well

Bud was substituted for Dixie in the 70s during the Carson era after the Band was requested to stop playing it because it was hurting recruiting.

It's in the instrumentation, not in the words.

Can someone clue me in as to what “rats on the field” is?
Freshmen students at many colleges (fewer now than in the past have traditionally been referred to as "rats". Up until the mid 70s (probably), the Tech rats were told to go on the field at the beginning and end (victorious) of games. Upperclassmen would yell, "rats on the field; rats on the field," as well as other things like "damn good rats" or "damn bad rats." Times have obviously changed. Some freshmen students still wear rat caps; all the freshmen band members still do.

Thought that was a secret never to be spoken about?

Honestly, someone could raise a hell of a stink about it and it would hurt us. Given the times we live in.
Might not actually be there anymore. It was there in older recording. If you listen carefully enough you can find about 5 different tunes at the end of W&G: Jingle Bells, Hail to the Chief, etc. Not sure if it was ever cleaned up completely.

Anyway...re: the band uniforms. If you don’t like them, donate a boatload of money to change them. They’re not bound to any apparel contract like Athletics.

Thanks. They taught us about rat caps as freshmen, just not the rest.
