Georgia moved up after winning to an unranked team by 1, ole miss is 1-2 yet still ranked although they did lose to two top 15 teams. Nebraska was not ranked and moved up to 20 . On the bright side we are ranked at 36th tied with North Carolina at 17 votes, idk how they aren't ranked with barley losing to a team that's ranked 12th though. If we beat Clemson It will be interesting to see if we jump into the top 15 like some other teams did when beating such highly ranked teams, probably not though. Here's the rankings for those who care.

Not a very good indicator when the phrase "about the same number" is used multiple times, and especially when it's directly tied to the phrase "the same number of games most FBS teams have played". I'm not sold on this Colley fella.

  1. Selecting only games involving two FCS teams, rank the FCS teams using the normal Colley Matrix system.
  2. Form groups of FCS teams.
    • Determine the average number of games played by FBS teams.
    • Starting at the top of the ranked list of FCS teams, begin adding to the group until the number of games that group has played against FBS is about the same number of games most FBS teams have played so far this season.
    • When the group is "full," move to the next group and repeat previous step.
    • Avoid the problem that the last group may be underpopulated by iteratively "demoting" teams from other groups until the distribution of FBS games played by each FCS group is fairly even.
  3. We now have groups of FCS teams that have played about the same number of games against FBS as most FBS teams have played this season.
  4. Add these groups into the list of FBS teams.
  5. Rank the FBS teams plus the FCS groups as normal with the Colley Matrix ranking system.

You'd think ESPN would have their voters put us at 25 or something to boost the meaning of our Thursday night game. Guess they don't have as much pull as I thought.

I like it because it's math and it's based on what matters, winning. Early in the season there isn't enough data to have much meaning. Just like all other poles out there.

The Reverend quietly has Miami back in the thick of things already.

They're resume is no better than ours. They've played 1 team so far this year. Them being ranked after week 1 was a joke.

It has everything to do with TV and Ads. They keep certain teams ranked, when they are already scheduled so they get the money from TV. Its all about the money. Kinda like star rankings for HS players.

I agree and I thought they'd rank us considering we play Clem on nat'l tv this week. Weird we didn't get that "network" bump.

All rankings at this time of year are a joke. There should be none published until about halfway through.
Flea is right. When ESPN promotes these supposedly "marquee" matchups, they can point to this team being #3 and that team being #6 or whatever. It's all about the $$$. The rankings are imaginary, but it all helps sell the product.

First "poll" should not come out until at least 4 or 5 games have been played.
Year after year there normally is so much shake up it's ridiculous.
