"Philo will be a baller' as per Haynes King
2023
At this time last year
Gt was 7-4 w crazy losses to BC and some crummy team. Our defense was a joke - no one passed because run defnse was ranked 100 plus. We had to score.
At start of year we were predicted to be 14 as was( who is this guy) Haynes King
With horrid defense we ended up 4th and Haynes was near the top w approx 2750 pass and 750 rush but with 8 int in 2 losses.
2024
Gt is 7-4 and ranked 4th in ACC King was healthy in defeat to S cuse but had 350 yds offense and no int; In L to Louisville he had 390 yds offense and no int. Scuse and L are 5 th and 6th.

We won 3 acc games but King was injured in UNC at end.

Against ND we were 3-2 but King did not play Pyron played and got 340 yds but 2 int. ND is a top team and the soundly whipped us.

Against Vt King did not play but pyron and philo got 290 yds but had 2 int. Vt is 11th in ACC.

MIAMI AND Vt our defense won the game. Miami was poorly prepared and king could run.

NCST was well prepared but when Key unleashed Philo to throw long we were back to 2023 style when king would air it out.
At end philo balled out
HE SEEMS TO SEE THE FIELD.

Vt came back and almost one on long fg. Vt lost and is now 14th in conference.

Beating the 14th ranked acc team by 1 point is not impressive.

What is impressive is we did open up the offense for Philo. We need to find that switch more often

Philo needs to be on wide open agsinst uga. King will need a miraculous physical IMPROVEMENT by next friday if he is going to SUPRISE UGA. I say give the game to Philo
Correction that may not be relevant to your point… at this time last year we were 6-5.

He certanly did, but outside of that last drive we didnt score a offensive TD with him at the helm. let that sink in . 3 FG's 1 defensive score . 1 King Run that was basiclly another Defensive score. I love Philo He's Gonna be a stud and that was a awesome moment . But let's be realistic about what really happened on the field last night and not slaves to the moment .
Haynes Said he belives He'll be ready next week . if He's 80% of the player he's been for us in the past That's better than Philo
I like Philo but if Haynes can go it would be better.

I 100% Agree , but even with a hurt King it Opens up Jamal a ton because philo is clearly handing off the ball on the read plays . Also Philo did have guys drop it . but he also had 2-3 close calls that should have been picks . just dont like a freshman vs uGA . Kirby will send the house . bottom line if we don't run the ball we wont win anyway .
I mean, George Godsey scored on a long run. If it’s an option then the QB always has the option to keep. Otherwise we wouldn’t call the play.

Thanks.

Sorry Team Swarm, below is the correct article with PFF grades for last night. I deleted Bad info!!

The true freshman no one is talking about is Harrison Moore..... He has played OT, OG and TE....last night he was in for 32 plays!!!!!
.....I have no idea if #10 or #12 starts next year at QB but #52 will be starting somewhere up front for us in '25...and '26...and '27......

Techwood Relic, you may be looking at my inaccurate post where I picked up some incorrect info which was apparently from last year where Fusile was graded at 85.5.

I corrected at 6:40 PM above. Fusile graded at 67.3 in the game last night as shown in the correct SI article above. Sorry for my error.
I was actually looking at the current numbers. It's not a high score for Fusile, but it may be the best I've seen for him in a bit, so relative good for him. I still think it is likely he gets passed as a starter next year. Moore has been playing well and nearly doubled his snaps from the week prior.

I do know this. The choice to score with that much time left instead of going down and bleeding the clock to kick a game winning field goal didn't work. I don't think playing scared works very often. Just like playing prevent defense. Another way of playing scared.
The score forced us to score a TD to win. How many offensive TD had we scored in the first 58 minutes and 30 seconds. Just to refresh your memory that would be NONE! The NCST player scoring a TD was not a mistake by the player.

Haynes King's quote from the AJC article after the NCS win.

“My shoulder’s been getting better and better, which allowed me to come out here and throw a couple passes, stuff like that. But, just take it day by day and keep doing rehab treatment, getting it better. It’s a high percentage for me to come in next week and ball out, be more of a passer and passing threat.”

According to the Box Score King was 3 for 3 for 7 yards. I thought he missed on his one pass beyond the LOS. Regardless, that in not a healthy QB who will be ok throwing the ball in one week. Against Miami he was 6 for 6 for 36 yards mostly on Jet Sweeps or tosses the the HB in the flats. He is really hurt in a way that severely limits his ability to throw the ball.

He didn't miss he threw the quick out instead of seeing the tight end come wide open.

I didn't think they had a 95% chance to win the game at any point. After they scored, there was a minute-thirty left, and with Philo and our receivers I felt like we had a decent chance to come back.
No lead is safe anymore with a decent amount of time left.
I would not criticize anyone in that situation. You break free on a run like that and you take it all the way. It looked like the game winner. Everyone wants that in their memory bank.
True dat. Besides Smothers first name is wait for it... "Hollywood" With a name like that who wouldn't pass up a chance to cavort in the end zone and while quieting and taunting the home crowd? I can't say I blame him and besides it was a great run.

I never played the game and have a hard time diagnosing plays live - but it seems to me that Philo is operating more of an Air Raid offense. I'm pretty sure the 3rd and 18 he converted to Stockton against Miami last week was a classic Y-Cross. Four Verticals has made a come back which is a huge part of Buster's offense, but I think this is more due to Haynes (in)ability to throw. I'm not sure he's really been healthy all year, much less the last few games where he can't throw further than 5 yards.

If I'm an opposing defense, I'm sending the house at Philo going forward and not giving him time to read the field. That'll be his next evolution - if he can burn the blitz he could be *special*.

Please don't take this a knock against Haynes - he's a special player, healthy or not.
Which is why it is utterly mystifying to me that the Wolfpack defense did not do what had worked so well for them most of the game in getting pressure on Philo. That guy is pure poison if he has time. Can see the field really well and is remarkably poised for a freshman but then end of the game heroics is probably something he did in high school a good bit in directing his team to two state championships.

The strategist in me says fall down before the score and kick the extra point length fg, but then you think - what if something happens. If you are ahead it is a no brainer, different story if you are behind.

I do recall one game (don't remember what it was), where GT was going to kick a FG - but on third down. Snap was bobbled but GT landed on it, they were then able to set up again and kick on 4th down and made it for the win. Of course to do that you have to have a TO in your pocket and leave enough time so if something does go wrong the clock doesn't run out on you.
Georgia when Godsey was the holder. May have been 1999 or thereabouts. Once again, a wise precaution by O'Leary to kick the field goal on third down in case something like that happened which it did. I thought that the third down kick was blocked but you may be thinking of another game and another year.

You'd think with 22 seconds left the lead would be safe but had that kick at the end gone a foot to the right...
Looking at that kick from the vantage point of behind the kicker, I lost sight of the ball before it got to the field goal posts. I thought it was going to be good. Was it really off by only a foot? For once, the ghosts of Heisman, Alexander, and Dodd were blowing that ball to the left ever so slightly.

Definite progress. If King doesn’t go down we likely have another W at VPI and are sitting at 8-3.
I agree buddy. I believe we beat ND and VT if #44 and #10 were healthy. We gotta good football team just don’t have enough depth yet but it’s coming. Recruiting looks very good and we will keep getting better. Still some games to be played but we are 4th in the ACC right now. Team beat up the way it is and we are 7-4, I’ll take it lol

Our guys did not play as well last night as they did against Miami and it may be because NC State is not Miami. And we have uga coming up. You can't get sky high every week. Not surprised we had a bit of an emotional letdown as a 9-point favorite.
Same goes for coaches. Not impressed with “Tooch” or Buster.
