Marshall the key to JMU football’s success down the stretch
JMU junior running back Marcus Marshall had arguably his best game as a Duke under the lights Friday. The Georgia Tech transfer rushed for 128 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns in the Dukes’ 31-28 comeback win against Weber State. With potentially two of JMU’s biggest games left, Marshall will be the deciding factor in whether the Dukes will hoist their second-straight national championship trophy.

JMU lost to NDSU... Will M. Marshall follow Roof to NC STATE?

Marshall stats....
11 for 30 and 1 TD

2 catches for -7...

NDSU obviously has one heck of a defense...

Can he come back to GT??
Probably a dream at this point..... He did very well as their Tailback.. 850 yards 11 tds... I also think that their family believes he can get to the NFL/CFL/AFL from JMU playing Tailback easier than playing at Georgia Tech...

His father said playing time had a role in the decision to leave Georgia Tech “That was not the main factor,” Warren Marshall said Monday. “The transition from freshman to sophomore, I think there was some disappointment coming into his sophomore year when a freshman (Dedrick Mills) was named the starter. There was some contention there. I think it was a little bit of a personality clash (with coaches), but he never got into any disagreement or argument. We felt like they should make the freshman earn the position. (Mills) fit their profile. (Head coach) Paul Johnson, I have respect for him. He handled us extremely well. We left on good terms.”

Marcus Marshall operated out of Georgia Tech’s triple-option offense — he was essentially a dive-running back — before shifting to tailback in JMU’s spread offense. “They’re different positions. He had some learning curve there,” Madison coach Mike Houston said. “It did maybe take him a little longer to adapt and I think (the transition) may have given him some questions in the back of his mind as far as knowing that he can do it, that he can go out there and play at that high level.”
“He is continuing to try to pick up on the system,” Warren Marshall, Marcus’ father, said Monday night from his home in Raleigh, N.C. “I’m not there, so I don’t see everything, but just watching him in the games, he just looks like he’s picking up more of what their blocking schemes are. “I think he’s really doing a good job now of squaring his shoulders up so he can cut left or right, which I think makes a big difference in that system.”

Good Read...

“For me, I saw an opportunity to finish my career at a great place and I took it,” said Marshall, who added that he narrowed his transfer options to JMU and Iowa. Marcus said JMU was on his radar before he committed to Georgia Tech. He even took one of his official visits to Harrisonburg. “It was a good fit back then, just like it is now, but I had some opportunities that, at the time, I thought were bigger,” Marshall said. “Those opportunities didn’t work out, and I’m blessed to have this opportunity now.”
