Add in Maxie Baughan, as good as any of them, maybe better. Linebacker, 10 years in the pros, three times all-pro, nine times in the pro bowl. Linebacker and center at GT in the late '50s Actually coached a couple of years while he pursued his degree after leaving the NFL. If one were to build a model middle linebacker in the '50s and '60s, Baughan would be the result.
oops, Just saw his name. NM. good list.

Do not know length of careers but -

Al Richardson - falcons

Billy Martin- Bears, falcons

Tony ????? - part of glitz blitz with falcons. From Augusta IIRC. Anyone?

Robert Lavette - Cowboys.

Ray Beck - giants

Ted Davis - Bears?

Craig Bayhnam - Cowboys

Like I said, do not know length of career, but lasted more than just camp.

Apropos of almost nothing, but looking at the list with so many from an era long past when average guys could actually get a chance to play football, and play well, the biggest player on the 1959 LSU team was Billy Cannon. He was listed at 209 pounds.

It would be interesting to get the complete list compiled to get the average (and distribution) of their tenure. Then using current averages we can show expected earnings for their NFL career. I would think it would strengthen the case for the 40 year plan. And all this is IF they make the NFL.

177 players avg of 4.5. Now some of these guys are still playing so avg might be a little low but a good approximation.

You know, of course, that the selling point of any college degree is the lifetime earnings, whether it is from Tech or anywhere else. The last figure I saw a year or so ago was that a college graduate could expect to make an average of about $850,000 more than someone with just a HS degree, irrespective of the origin of the degree. That number has tended to move up and down but in pretty small increments. Certainly Tech grads in high end fields will make more, but the flip side is that a lot of Tech grads in less demanded fields will go right into the middle of the pack, because that is life. And yep, the same is true of grads from Stanford or ND or Cornell or Yale, etc. The degree might get one in the door but it does not guarantee a desk.
