Per a pretty reliable source, tifwiw, Newman was going to be the starting QB, but was worried, apparently unnecessarily so, that he may be beaten out later. Part of the issue was bringing in JT Daniels late

A lotta layers to unpack there. First, you want your QB to not be looking over his shoulder to that degree. Have some self-confidence.

However, that's basically what happened to the one kid that transferred to Washington or whatever. They've shown a pattern of falling in and out of love with the 'next big thing' at QB in favor of the 'next-est bigger-est thing'. So I don't think his concern was unfounded.

Kid knew they were gonna foul up a couple winnable games in typical uGA fashion. And they were gonna do the typical, "play the cutest guy holding a clipboard at QB" once they blamed the losses on him.

I have to agree with this take.

If he was worried about being beat out, he should probably not transfer to a team that is in the running for the CFP every year, and usually has one or maybe teo 5-star quarterbacks on the roster at any given point in time.

He wasn’t transferring to Clemp, Bammer or LSU or even Ohio St U or Oklahoma. He was transferring to Michigan of the South minus the academics or maybe an equivalent of the State Penn.
