Few things here:

1. Bill O'Brien (BOB) is a VERY good coach. Imagine being a GT fan and turning your nose up on a coach of BOB's caliber. If you want Key, BOB is a much better version of what we would get with Key. You're going to get a tough team, built from the offense/defensive line play, and high level QB play. BOB is VERY good at developing talent. QBs and skill positions will line up to play for him because he has a track record of developing talent and sending them to the NFL at Penn State and 'Bama...oh, and he coached in the NFL which has cache with recruits. If anyone thinks BOB is wasting talent at 'Bama, then you are not paying attention. BOB is doing a great job at 'Bama. Ask Texas/TX A&M/Miami/FSU/etc about talent and wasting it. If all it took was talent, then those schools would be a top 5-10 school every year. They certainly are not.

2. I'm fine with key. I've always said that Key should be considered if he met certain standards. However, if Key is getting the job because the old boys club are pitching a fit they're not getting their way, well GT deserves whatever is coming. Good or bad. HOWEVER, I'm going to look on the bright side. It's possible that the old boys club made a deal with Batt: We keep Key on as HFC, the old boys club puts up money for a really good staff to support Key, they throw in a big NIL pot ($8+ million), AND they're on the hook for a big portion of the buyout if Key doesn't work out. I can live with that, and honestly, GT can't really turn that down. I like Key, I think Key can be another O'Leary type coach for us. However, what's his ceiling? What he decides to do with the offensive side of the ball and ability to retain Thacker will go a long way in determining the future of GT football.

3. Jamie Chadwell. I make no bones about it, he's been my #1 choice since Collins was escorted to his car with a $11 million going away check. I think his offense is a game changer for a school like GT, and his offensive mind is on the level of a Friedgen/Paul Johnson/Lincoln Riley/Leach. This is an option rushing attack with a high level passing game? That's a unicorn in the modern era. Of the 3 guys I've named here, Chadwell is IMO the guy with the highest ceiling. If Chadwell was on deck ready to sign, and our old boys club muddied up the water to get their way, well...GT fans can have fun watching Chadwell coach at another P5 school and seeing them destroy other schools. If reports are true, Chadwell will have options (no pun intended).

All three of these scenarios look good to me. We're sitting in the catbird seat. Lots of good choices seemingly available - if they are all indeed available.

Well said. I've been waiting for someone to sell me you've come closest so far.

Don't tell anybody I said this but, when we vote for best posters, you'll get my vote. Ya know, since I won't be able to vote for the real winner myself. :sneaky:

I don't want the award for best poster...I want the prestigious award of having the best taste in ice cream. If you vote for @dtm1997 for that award, it'll be like shanking me with my back turned away. Et tu, KG?!

Fwiw I don’t believe the Key or BOB are already signed rumors, I mean why would they sign Key before the uga game, it’s not like anyone else is beating down the door for his services, if they beat us 77-0 and then we announce this is our new HC that a REAL bad look. Same with BOB, nobody wants the guy whats the hurry? I think thats just Bama fans trying to wish their problems away onto somebody else.
100% this . If Batt signed Key prior to uga game, he is an imbecile. we could lose and be super embarrassed and/or Key could do something really dumb and then Batt has to scramble to undo a contract? I can't imagine Key is signed, and he says he hasn't even interviewed. I suspect as soon as uga game is over, there is an interview, same for BoB as soon as Iron bowl ends. I read that Kevin Sumlin could be on our list too (CBS sports I think). Sumlin, probably kind of like BoB, he has experience and will run a competent program. Sumlin's resume is good except at AZ. I still think we might be surprised by Batt's choice, unless we beat the mutts then all is well in mudville and no controversy and we have our guy. If not Key, I think there is a good chance he stays, especially if its BoB.

Could not agree more with this post. Nothing wrong with either of these options. IMO: Key is the safest hire, least turnover on the roster and appealing to emany sides of the aisle. However I feel like he is a 7 win a year coach. (Which we would kill for at this point)

BoB - not who the masses seem to want but I think he has experience the others lack and would be a less likeable but slight upgrade to Key.

Chadwell- he is your boom or bust with a bit of a safer bet to boom than bust. Best shot at 10 wins happening occasionally.

Life at 3 AM in a WaHo has to be experienced to be believed. It is not something that can simply be explained to others. As an aside, I can't picture any more stressful a job than being a cook at a crowded WH.
Working at Junior's Grill when it was on North Avenue next to Engineer's?

Or working at the V on Saturdays just before kickoff back in the [insert your favorite decade here]?

Okay.

I was torn, but now I'm sure.

I want all three.

BOB only won big 10 coach of the year and ESPN National coach of the year in 1 of his 2 years as a college head coach. He’s not my #1 but it is not as bad a hire as y’all make it out to be.

BOB performed a miracle at Penn St and resurrected a program in 1 year after the Joe Paterno scandal and resulting penalties. I think it's a great hire to get GT back to prominence.

I learned this morning that Batt has hired Joseph Smith, currently head coach at Linfield University. A proven winner. Will be announced when their playoff run ends.

CHAMPIONS COMPETE HERE

Home of the nation's only football program with the most consecutive winning seasons (65 to be exact), three national baseball titles, two-time national softball champions, 21 NCAA Division III teams. So, yeah - we are the champions.

Hire a hot shot analytics math major. Partner with IBM to get the Deep Blue software and use that to run game day decisions. Position coaches to run practices and recruit. After all, that software beat the world's best in chess. Just a joke guys. But I do wonder if we are doing enough with analytics to get any advantage.
Another chess reference. This is the best football forum ever. I love it.
