Do you know the yearly cost of a scholarship?

I can't give a full scholarship, that's above my paygrade.

I am going to donate $1 for the first win, and double that for every win after ($1, $2, $4, $8, $16, $32, $64, $128....$4096) we win more than 6 games then it can be a respectable sum of money in addition to my season tickets and donation I will be doing. Win 12 games and that's a $8190 payday from a run of the mill fan.

So endowing a $30k scholarship means giving enough cash to invest for consistent returns every year of $30k in today's dollars. So it is inflation + x% based on the amount given. Let's say we target 3.5% inflation and returns of a nice safe 3% on top of that. So, 6.5% returns (which is pretty darn good) requires something like $461k...so let's call it an even $500k to endow a scholarship.

Finance nerds, is that about right?

That would be one scholarship in perpetuity. The one I help with has a little over $5M in prinicpal to endow one 4 year scholarship every year. There are certain measure that would be taken if the expense gets too high or the projeted yield gets too low on the invested funds. Mostly, it's make it up with more $$. That has not been an issue except for 1 year in the last 30.

If I put my tinfoil hat on, I wonder how much of a contributing factor their financial backing for the buyout and the new coach is in us looking for a new AD.

I believe Cabrera when he says that he wasn’t happy with the direction of the AA. If some of our big donors are actually laying out big bucks, they had to want something. (It might have been one of those concessions where “we were going to do this anyway, so we can give them what they want”).

LOL, most people do ;)
Actually, my friends need to upgrade theirs!

TAM and Gt have same debt but TAM has 3 times as many Alumni who donate 3 times as much per Alumni.

Just up the brazos river form TAM, Baylor has just built a 45,000 stadiuim on the river w all nice seats. Also building a new bb arenas- super small w seats right on court.

I feel like its now or never

GTAA donors are actually pretty generous. Fairly decent average per donor. We just don’t have enough donors.

So a decade ago i asked does the gtaa have use of the gt alumni association list?

That list is used to get donations celebrated at the gtaa arrange homecoming football game.

Had a conversation with someone in the AD yesterday about this. Typically, for an endowment, they pull 5% of the funds annually. So, for a $30K scholarship, it would require around $600K donation.

Edited, just saw the debt balances of the other programs. Looks like we are not worst debt to revenue ratio but definitely one of the worst.

More importantly, Texas A&M has nearly triple our Operating Revenue.

We may not play like an elite team, but we can spend money with the best of them! That B1G money is looking awfully nice...

As someone who lives in CO (and has family on staff at CSU), many of us wondered why the heck they decided to build the new stadium. Suites and things are nice, and being closer to campus is nice, but apparently the revenue hasn't really followed.

My understanding is that they do not. The lists have been historically kept separate to prevent cannibalizing eachother.

I fear we may be heading down the same path. I have heard that J Batt wants to transform Bobby Dodd and the surrounding area into an elevated entertainment experience to the tune of multiple billions of dollars. My suggestion would be to either wait until we get full funding or significantly pay down our debt.

While it doesn't change your basic point about needing to fix our debt situation, the revenue number reported by the same Knight database that was used for Debt ($278M checks out) lists our 2022 revenue at $107M, not $79M. We're still near the top in D:R, but it's not quite as egregious as the table shows. Unless I am misinterpreting the data, which wouldn't be the first time.

I have noticed that revenue has recently included "alternate resources" beyond the old categories- tv sharing ( flat) , ticket sales ( we are woeful) , donations ( we are woeful) , student fees. Where are the alternate $ coming from?

Never understood why scholarships for athletics need to be paid by anyone at this point. I get the history, but these days the tuition should just be waived entirely by the university system
