In 2022, when Ivey transferred, there was an infamous picture of him and a very expensive car followed shortly by a commitment to Ole Miss. There was indication even then that money was involved, legally of course. The following is a quote from the thread when he transferred.

Have a buddy from Mississippi that came out to ski with his brothers and one works for the Ole Miss athletic department. I brought up Jared Ivey and he said that he’s a part of the “blank program”. Blank as in I can’t remember the name.

I asked what that was and he said it was their new NIL fund. He said to one of his other brothers. “He’s getting paid!” I know it’s not really that news breaking because once you see the Maserati picture ya kinda know, right?

May try to dig a little deeper tomorrow. Will report back if I can get some more details.

The gap will continue to widen without drastic measures.

That actually sounds right. '21 season was his last. Pretty sure that was still before NIL, but what do I remember? Either way, from what I was told by someone that should have known, his move was not about $$, but more about coaching, specifically position coaching. Take if for what it's worth as an anonymous comment on a message board.
I was curious about when NIL started and I came across an On3 article about the timeline of NIL, referencing the lawsuits, judicial reviews, etc. and the article seemed to conclude that schools were able to start offering NIL in July '21.

One of the Ivey articles did say that he was unhappy with our losing but knowing how the "big boys" want to be ahead of the game and that if NIL was OK in Jan '22 then it seems reasonable that Kiffin and Miss would throw some bones his way to sweeten the deal. But...IDK.
