Apr 22, 2014 6:01 PM - Eric: Okay, any questions fire away
Apr 22, 2014 6:04 PM - 00Burdell: Ok, I'll break the ice. How are we doing today relative to the same time last year?
Apr 22, 2014 6:05 PM - Eric: recruiting or team?
Apr 22, 2014 6:06 PM - 00Burdell: Recruiting. At a high-level; we are doing much better; bout the same; not as good - comparing momentum more than anything else
Apr 22, 2014 6:07 PM - 00Burdell: Seems our most recent classes are each better than the preceeding one - do you expect this year's class to be even better than the class we just signed?
Apr 22, 2014 6:10 PM - Eric: I think we are ahead at this time of where we were last year....just look at our overall number of commits. I would say we are ahead of where we were last year but not by a ton.
Apr 22, 2014 6:12 PM - Eric: That is a tough one....I really like a lot of pieces that we signed last year. We have a chance to have a better overall class but it depends on how many of our top targets we hit. I think this class may end up ranked a tad higher overall but I dont know if I will consider it better...if that makes sense haha.
Apr 22, 2014 6:12 PM - Eric: For me personally...I love the big uglies. So last years class is a dream one for me....However if we land Will Bryan, Nick Polino and someone else like a Harrison Moon that would really excite me.
Apr 22, 2014 6:14 PM - AE 87: Have you heard any scuttlebutt from coaches or players about this team coming out of the spring versus last year's team? I know that there's always players talking about winning it all, but have you gotta a feeling relative to last year?
Apr 22, 2014 6:17 PM - Eric: The team is energized coming out of the Spring...I think that is expected though. I know the coaches are excited about the QB position and getting back to the basics of the option...I know the staff is excited about some key pieces on this years team. Last year I would say there was more talk publicly about doing and winning things where this team has been more work less talk so far...Last years
Apr 22, 2014 6:18 PM - Eric: team really get after it in the offseason though...I hope to see the same from this team in that regard.
Apr 22, 2014 6:26 PM - George: If you know: Where are we or what's the situation with RB Kawon Bryant? He may be the best pure RB in the state. I see he was at the game Friday night.
Apr 22, 2014 6:27 PM - Jackethawk: I asked about Nauta last week and then saw he was at the game Friday night? Did you get a chance to talk to him?
Apr 22, 2014 6:28 PM - Eric: He was at the game Friday night, He was suppose to go to Bama Saturday. The staff says he does not have a offer yet but IMO he will get one before it is all over with.
Apr 22, 2014 6:29 PM - Jackethawk: I didn't know if he and Polino were close friends.
Apr 22, 2014 6:31 PM - George: Bryant? Why in the world would he not have an offer? We have offered and received commitments from backs not near the level of a Bryant. I thought he did have an offer? That's a head scratcher.
Apr 22, 2014 6:32 PM - George: Nauta was there with Polino. He will wine and dine at every elite program. Doesn't hurt to have him on campus though.
Apr 22, 2014 6:33 PM - thwgjacket: What is Nauta's first name? Can't find him on Rivals
Apr 22, 2014 6:35 PM - George: Issac
Apr 22, 2014 6:35 PM - Eric: Bryant doesnt have a offer per one of the GA's.
Apr 22, 2014 6:36 PM - George: Wow!
Apr 22, 2014 6:36 PM - Eric: I havent talked to Nauta..I know we offered at DE.
Apr 22, 2014 6:36 PM - thwgjacket: Oh the TE? Are we looking at doing something with him like Klock?
Apr 22, 2014 6:36 PM - George: DE
Apr 22, 2014 6:37 PM - Eric: Kawon doesnt have many offers that I know of...not sure what the hold up is. He is a good sleeper that is for sure
Apr 22, 2014 6:40 PM - Eric: I will talk to Polino about Nauta.
Apr 22, 2014 6:40 PM - Eric: Fwiw UGA is checking on Bryant and his teammate Banks.
Apr 22, 2014 6:40 PM - thwgjacket: Height, not much room to pack on weight? Grades?
Apr 22, 2014 6:41 PM - George: Yeah I see that. I wonder what the deal is? How does a kid with those kind of stats and size, speed etc.is a sleeper. How does he not have tons of offers? I do see he was at Alabama Saturday. They don't exactly recruit and invite sleeper running backs on to their campus. There must be more to it. I hate to speculate. But wth?
Apr 22, 2014 6:42 PM - George: I mean no disrespect to any other back, but if we've offered ANY other back in Georgia (and we have) how could we not offer that kid? Guess we'll wait and see. Like you said, seems like the offers would be many.
Apr 22, 2014 6:44 PM - thwgjacket: I think it's important to remember that potential plays a big factor in recruiting. When I see a kid that is 5'8 208# with an already massive neck I don't see a lot of potential growth wise. Coaches may see him as being as good now as he will ever be. Pure speculation.
Apr 22, 2014 6:46 PM - thwgjacket: To be fair though he has widely differing weights listed for him.
Apr 22, 2014 6:47 PM - Eric: Yeah I dont understand how he doesnt have any offers...I dont think Kawon is the top RB in the state though. but he is a good one.
Apr 22, 2014 6:47 PM - George: I guess that's one theory. But how much bigger would he need to be? 208 pounds now? Seems pretty big. Ask Godhigh if Bryant is big...lol
Apr 22, 2014 6:48 PM - George: Nike Sparq Camp has Bryant at 198. That was last month and they are very accurate.
Apr 22, 2014 6:49 PM - George: I said top "pure" RB in the state. Who would you see as better Eric? Obviously the recruiting sites love Taj Griffin, but he's 170 pounds and thin.
Apr 22, 2014 6:50 PM - Eric: We have 5 Rbs that claim offers from GA...Taj Griffin (AB), Mon Denson (B back), Eric Swinney (A), Joshua Thomas (B) Mikell lands Davis (A or B - more likely B)
Apr 22, 2014 6:50 PM - thwgjacket: Well that's what I'm saying, if he is already at a maxed out weight for his frame there is not much room for more power. Hence there not being potential for future improvement. But if he's at 198 then there is some room, but 5'8 is not a big frame.
Apr 22, 2014 6:51 PM - Eric: Eric Swinney is one I really like...and Mikell Lands Davis is my favorite, especially as a B back in our offense.
Apr 22, 2014 6:51 PM - Eric: I think Taj is more of a slot guy.
Apr 22, 2014 6:52 PM - Fatmike91: ERIC - Is there anyting else you can tell us about the big uglies?
Apr 22, 2014 6:52 PM - Eric: On the team?
Apr 22, 2014 6:53 PM - thwgjacket: Eric I know that we don't want to put all our eggs in one basket but with Custis, Donovan, Autry and Leggett all being young and highly regarded is it safe to say we may go light on the backs this year?
Apr 22, 2014 6:53 PM - George: IDK, maybe. Have you seen/talked to Bryant Eric? He doesn't look like size would be an issue. Taj is definately a slot guy. I like Swinney and Lands-Davis, just less than Bryant.
Apr 22, 2014 6:54 PM - Eric: I talked to him one time a long time back, I saw a pic of him at the Spring game. The kid is thick.
Apr 22, 2014 6:54 PM - Fatmike91: you mentioned some big uglies from a recruiting perspective earlier. (i didn't mean to interupt the running back discussion)
Apr 22, 2014 6:56 PM - Eric: in 2015 we will have Andrews (jr), Snoddy (Sr), Lynch (Rs Fr), Autry (Rs Fr) and Leggett (Rs Fr)....So I think we take three RBs this year overall.
Apr 22, 2014 6:58 PM - Eric: We are taking three lineman this year...we already have one with Will Bryan who is a beast. After that we can chose to be selective now...I really like Nick Polino and to be honest I think he could be our next commit. Harrison Moon has a good base to work with and potential...Rob Dowdy is another good option.
Apr 22, 2014 6:59 PM - Fatmike91: Thanks.
Apr 22, 2014 7:00 PM - thwgjacket: Since we're talking OL does Griffin have real chance to be the best OL we've had in a long time? Have heard rave reviews of him.
Apr 22, 2014 7:02 PM - Eric: I have been a fan of Griffin from forever ago...I said last year that he one of the best lineman that we have had in a long time, So yes I am sticking with that statement. Love the kid. He is a perfect fit for our offense.
Apr 22, 2014 7:03 PM - thwgjacket: Cool, thanks for the time.
Apr 22, 2014 7:04 PM - Eric: Of course.
Apr 22, 2014 7:06 PM - Eric: anymore questions before I log off?
Apr 22, 2014 7:07 PM - George: Thanks Eric! Goodnight
Apr 22, 2014 7:08 PM - Eric: Thanks man! In the middle of closing on a house so have to spend some time packing.
