This argument over who is worse is like saying I hate paying $4.00/gallon for one gallon of gas so much more than paying $3.9999 for that gallon. They both sucked royally. And no hyperbole is necessary to describe that.
One difference between BL and GC is that the players didn't like BL and that most fans didn't like GC. Not sure what the players felt for GC but I am sure they didn't like losing.

If people want to continue posting about the past, keeping it in the correct threads (like this one) then go nuts fam. Happy that likeminded folks have something to discuss in the wide, wide, wonderful world of sports that is GT.

He chose Patenaude and Thacker. He chose to run a high percentage of plays we didn't have the athletes to execute. That's only half the equation & we're not even mentioning special teams. Also, everyone else faced Covid just the better teams figured out how to deal with it.

How do you explain the D crapping the bed with all the NFL talent on the team?
You could argue the DL should be weak, but how was our secondary atrocious with all that talent?
Why did an NFL caliber RB get so few carries? Specifically why did the carries he was best suited for often go to the guy that wasn't as well suited for them?
How did Graham help Brown tie Calvin's record & Sims can't come anywhere close throwing the ball deep downfield despite being an Elite 11 QB & playing with a better OL?
How in the world did Taquon Marshall who was definitely not a "real" QB have a higher ypa than Sims despite his "tiny, undersized, weak, not suited for pass blocking OL" ?

There was no reason for any of this to happen the way it did. He made choices, bad choices & they turned out badly. Bad leadership selected a bad coach with a bad strategy, who was bad at planning, sourrounded himself with bad coaches, who did a bad job of player development, coached their systems very badly, then executed very badly on gameday followed by bad post-game analyses in preparation for the next week which tuned out just as bad. And he behaved very badly doing it.
I am really disappointing in your assessment. How could you possible have forgot :D

He made bad choices on his choice of outfits and especially his stuffed like a sausage pants
he made bad choice on how to entertain the fans during the game (Money Down, making the band stop playing traditionally like it did)
He made bad choice pushing aside Derrick Moore
Plus what all do we still not know about?

The guy took worst coach to a whole new level compared to Bill Lewis.

You could legitimately ask if he was the worst coach EVER for any P5 program over the last 30 years. He was truly Just That Bad

I think you are all suffering from recency bias. No one is arguing that Collins was not bad. For all his faults, he did not divide the team along racial lines and take a ACCC calibre team and make it 1-10. Collins took a bad / average team and made it worse. L**** took a very good / great team and destroyed it.

your right. But I am still pissed and it feels worse now since we were able to overcome that disaster and we are not seeing a clear path to get over this one

I think righting the ship after Collins will be a lot easier than repairing the damage that L**** did in facturing the team along racial lines. O'Leary turned out to be the perfect choice to turn around that team. He was such a mean sumabich, that they had no time or inclination to fight with each other.

Haha, guess I just had to write it down and read it. I just smh when I think of the guy.
I think this conversation is going to be very similar to the Jack vs. Tiger debate that golfers have. Strong cases can be made for both in these two separate debates.

I think what gives Collins a tipping point advantage for most fans as the worst coach ever is that he took a winning program and preceded to talk about that program like it was SMU he was reviving from the death penalty. Then each year he drove the program deeper into the ground to the point that he all but argued that wins were not the proper criteria for success. He kept lowering the bar to the point that fans were told they were blind if they couldn’t see the progress.

I lived through Bill Lewis and remember how bad it was. This feels worse in part because of the constant gaslighting by Collins. When a coach can’t even manage something as simple as a timeout, let alone any other single aspect of game management, but speaks about his elite standards every week, well, that’s a whole new level of substandard coaching.

And who can forget the "money down" stuff and OMG, pumping weights on the sideline? The guy was just an embarrassment.
And he was expensive, over $2 million a win - by that metric just about the highest paid coach in college football history, I take it.

Who’s worse, BL or GC? That’s like asking what’s worse, the plague or smallpox.

It terms of our program’s history,GC has been far more damaging. The game had already changed, then NIL came along. We needed an extraordinary coach for our program. Instead, we got a 2-bit carnival barker, a gridiron grifter long on slogans but utterly berift of leadership and organizational skills. GC has cost us time when time was crucial and money when funds are especially dear. BL was just a bad coach who played favorites. GC was a program killer.

You forgot conference realignment which is probably the worst part of his legacy. We were a team worth adding to the schedule until Collins. We ended up lumped in with Rice, Vandy, Dook, etc and even worse became a national joke.

The losing didn't get Collins fired, he clowned us into a national laughingstock where if they weren't laughing at us they pitied us. There's nothing the ruling elite at GT hate more than being embarassed even if it's just a sports team getting us ridiculed.

Didn't forget realignment, 33, but you hit the nail on the head with your public embarrassment take. GC's sloganeering BS was infuriating, but the public mockery he induced was intolerable. I understand he and TStan were escorted to their cars after getting canned. Entirely appropriate, IMO.

Isn't it time to lock this thread and move on?

Seriously, folks.
Why do you want to censure people if they want to express themselves? There’s not one post on here that doesn’t speak some truth. If you don’t like it move to another thread. I don’t read every thread but I don’t lobby for the mods to shut them down.
