This leads me to believe if we play a clean game we can beat UNC straight up. For VPI, we will need to get some turnovers.

I looked up our previous CPJ years in case anyone else was interested. Would be nice if we could crack a top 60 D...

Year - O - D
08 - 24 - 71
09 - 2 - 100
10 - 64 - 84
11 - 16 - 85
12 - 11 - 74
13 - 39 - 77
14 - 3 - 70
15 - 88 - 62

Miami, Vandy, and even Duke each have higher ranked D's than UNC, georgie, and uva. So, we should be able to score on them. I think our offensive improvement has been fairly good and consistent. I'm pretty confident there.

However, I'm dumbfounded by our D. The results and decline seem just as consistent as our improvement on O, but I don't want to believe it. None of the three offenses are that good, and I want to believe that we can put it together finally and get some stops.

I"ve thought that VPI is the biggest remaining test of both our O and our D, and these rankings suggest that too. If the light comes on for our D and we get a convincing win vs unc, then I think we may be able to right the tide into a respectable showing vs vpi. If not, then not.

2011 and 2012 were the Tevin Washington years. CPJ said it in the last radio show, but it really is true. TW was a really good QB who doesn't get the credit he deserves (BTW, the record JeT broke last Saturday was held by TW). Had TW had a good defense he wins 9-10+ games those years.

2015...considering what happened, the D actually turned out to be CPJ's best according to those rankings.

So as much as people complain about Roof, the two highest ranked D's are....Roof's.

He is better, but not much better than MTSU SCORES AGAIN! That guy was bad so being better than that is like being declared the winner a tie game.
The improved recruiting by Roof makes it worth being patient. At seasons end some staff under him need a fresh evaluation.

Can u imagine how good WE (the overall) could be if we had a really good defense? Could be soon.

GO JACKETS

That's the thing that I think about. He really is recruiting his balls off, and that will make his defense better by itself. If you can recruit your way to a decent defense, that works just as well as coaching your way to one.

I think at the time I was one of the few ( on the other site) that would defend him. I thought he made great reads on the TO.
