Marrying well is the trick.

It’s always been SWMBO. It’s a standard vanilla base, plus (chopped/crushed) fig preserves. When the fig trees fruit, we get a few buckets and she preserves the figs with lemon and sugar. I can ask the recipe.

You swirl in the fig preserves pulp into the churning ice cream until you have a nice swirl—it’s not 100% fig, just enough for flavor and some in the occasional bite. Not so it’s too sweet.

I had a huge scoop of vanilla with a slice of delicious blueberry pie today at the Blue Benn diner in Bennington, VT. That was perfect.
