Nico Senese started 11 games as a freshman. Hit .311 and fielded .939 (3 errors). He didn’t play 1 inning last year. He was not hurt. Explain that one
OK I'll try. The 11 games he started as a freshman were mostly as a replacement for Jadyn Jackson who got hurt at shortstop. He also got a little time at third base. The next year we brought in Payton Green at shortstop and Mike Bichetti at second base. He wasn't going to start ahead of either of them as they were two of the better players on our team. Additionally we brought in Cam Jones who started most games at first base when he wasn't pitching which moved to Giesler to third base and Senese wasn't going to play in front of him. And when Giesler was hurt freshman Carson Kerce played well as his replacement. Not knowing what may have been going on behind the scenes I can only assume Kerce was outplaying Senese in practice so he got the nod leaving Senese as the odd man out. By the way .939 is not a great fielding percentage for an infielder. Kerce had a .953 fielding percentage.Nico Senese started 11 games as a freshman. Hit .311 and fielded .939 (3 errors). Zero playing time indicates to me... there is more to it. Could be a lot of things.OK I'll try. Without any knowledge of injuries or other issues it looks as simple as he got beat out for playing time. That happens in sports. Hope that is a good enough explanation for you.
I also have no inside info, but I have to agree here, zero playing time says something is up besides just getting surpassed by incoming freshmen or transfers. We had 6 different players get starts at 2B/3B/SS. Are we certain he wasn't injured? Are we certain he was even on the team? I know of a couple examples over recent seasons at other schools where players were listed on the roster but had bailed before the season even started.Zero playing time indicates to me... there is more to it. I have no inside info... but could one possibility be he made decision to leave early in season & you're doing him a solid by preserving a year of eligibility (ie redshirt)?
Good. Except that means we gave up 7 unearned runs. But, I better understand his comments now…thanks for postingSaturday 13 freshman pitched 13 innings and gave up 1 earned run that’s what DH was talking about. Won game 1 9-2 Lost game 2 6-5. The opponent was Jacksonville State
That sounds promising although I'm not sure what the opponent was like for that game. Still only giving up one earned run in 13 innings is impressive no matter who you are facing. DH mentioned they were throwing strikes also which is a nice departure from what we have seen in the past. It gives me hope that there are some young arms that we will get to see this year. I know a few of the pitchers we signed came in with some hype so let's hope the hype is real.Saturday 13 freshman pitched 13 innings and gave up 1 earned run that’s what DH was talking about. I share your optimism, BUT I also feel like that was Jacksonville State…like a mid-week opponent. Not a competitive ACC/SEC baseball roster. I totally agree with you . But at the same time, how many of our midweek opponents have we held to one earned run over nine innings much less 13 innings over the past few years.I share your optimism, BUT I also feel like that was Jacksonville State…like a mid-week opponent. Point taken. You win….I totally agree with you . But at the same time, how many of our midweek opponents have we held to one earned run over nine innings much less 13 innings over the past few years.
or hitting apparantly? Danny Halls version of good pitching isn't the same as yours or mine. Results speak for themselves.Kennesaw State ~ 1st game Tate was the only pitcher for 2 innings ~ so 5 followed him ~ none I saw were outstanding ~ KS got 6 runs off of one pitcher.
2nd game ~ Carson Ballard (from last year) looked good. Only stayed one more inning so can't say much about the remaining pitchers.
Jax State ~ Watched Tech lose football so didn't get to ball park until 5th inning. 2 pitchers looked pretty good
2nd game ~ A couple of decent pitchers, however again one pitcher allowed 4 runs. Left around 5th inning. Score was Jax State 4 Tech 2
I didn't leave thinking "Wow we now have some great pitching"
They want the fewest people there as possible. Is there a reason they don’t advertise the fall games?
