Falcons' "Grits Blitz," 40 years ago

Hard to believe it was 40 years that a (then) unheralded defense put together by some guy named Jerry Glanville surprised the NFL with an ultra-aggressive approach, even doing something called the "Sticky Sam" blitz -- nine guys blitzing. For one glorious year, the Atlanta Falcons' defense did things that made it one of the best one-season performances in NFL history. Unfortunately, the offense was as tepid, poor, as the defense was incredible.

The opening game of the 1977 season the Falcons beat the Rams 17-6 and sacked Joe Namath 10 times knocking him out of the game.
