"Disklike" button

what say you make us an "dislike" button? Or maybe a "disagree" button. I know there's many times I think the post shouldn't stand unchallenged, but don't have the time or the inclination to really enter the fray. If you have a "disagree" button, maybe it could have a running total next to it so posters can see just how "troll-like" everyone else thinks they are.

Let's just say that this functionality exists, has been tested, and discussed among the moderators; just been afraid to pull the trigger due to potential... issues it may cause.

Over the course of time, every active member will have built a reputation comprising how other members have rated their posts. Once enabled, there is no way to opt-out of being rated other than to never post at all.

This is a list of ratings that the mods came up with along with which attribute to associate with each. We can have something as simple as "Like/Dislike(/Disagree)" or something more detailed like:

• Dislike
• Agree
• Disagree
• Confused
• Funny
• Winner
• Informative
• Off-Topic

So I'll just open it up to the floor for discussion.

I like the more detailed list. Will y'all start from scratch or incorporate existing "likes"?

One other thing you might want to incorporate is an optional drop down to allow a poster to input a brief reason why they are using a specific rating. That would allow the poster to do a bit more than just saying yea, nay or maybe. Or if all they wanted to do is make a simple rating they could still do that.

I may be in the minority but there's a reason this doesn't exist on social media platforms or most any other forums out there. It just adds something out there to possibly stir up arguments and I'm not sure it would bring much benefit to anything.

Also, problem with a rating system using dislikes is it may prevent people from posting a certain argument they may have against a game/player/etc. that obviously would be against what most others here believe because they wouldn't want the negative "hit" on their reputation. You can also run into scenarios such as someone posting about a player/recruit getting hurt like Jaylend Ratliff did. People obviously won't like the post but they may dislike it because that would be the appropriate response and it would end up giving a negative rating on someone's reputation as well.

A disagree button may be acceptable/useful however.

To me, the purpose for the "like" button is so the thread doesn't become cluttered with "+1"; "+1000"; "me too"; etc. If someone posts something that I agree with, I "like" it. It'd be the same for me with "dislike", but I see much possibility for abuse. That's kinda why I threw out "disagree". This seems less likely to instigate antagonistic behavior, but leaves it open for discussion, or not. I would bet there would be many, many posts that had equal "likes" and "disagrees".

Sounds cool on paper ( "on paper"), but every site I'm aware of that used 'dislike' functions quickly deteriorated to madness.

I "liked" it and agree.

While I think the other options would be interesting, not sure that the value they'd bring would not be more than offset by potential distraction/misuse/limiting a rebuttal/ etc. because folks would be concerned about their scored reputation.

Many will disagree with me but I say have all the options that John listed. I like the idea of simply showing a response with one click. I personally think it "could" cut down on arguments.

I would keep it simple and avoid a "reputation" system. I see a number of webpages that have thumb up/thumb down buttons. Something like that seems more than adequate to me. We see enough emoticons in here to cover the things listed in your detailed concept.
