You say globalist I see capitalism at work. If wages are lower somewhere else you move there. I agree there are fundamental issues that need addressing but identifying the root cause is critical.
No problem, as long as you don't mind relocating your family to Malaysia. Or watching your job go bye-bye.

Have an issue with that? Then maybe that simplistic view of the world is, you know, too simplistic.

Excuse me? When did I backtrack? I've pointed out several times that treatments are getting better, so the death rate is going down, although we're still "losing a thousand a day", if you caught that. So where, pray tell, did I backtrack? You don't know what you're talking about.

Crickets.
That's what happens, Milwaukee, when intellectually dishonest people make phony charges they can't substantiate.
They don't acknowledge it - they just ignore it, trot off, and make something else up.

As someone who is still pretty fresh off of being positive for COVID and experiencing, at times, some pretty rough periods with it, I do credit my fitness and nutrition as the main things that helped me get through with it. Iā€™ve been a competitive athlete in some form or fashion since childhood. As an adult (18 yo and on), Iā€™ve been a competitive cross country runner, trained as a bodybuilder, then moved to competitive powerlifting and been doing that all the way to current age of 42 (competition has been put on hold, but still train as such). Nutrition and being active are a daily essential for me, and even during the week that my symptoms were at their height, I still made sure I did at least an hour of high level cardio, and even my lifting if energy levels allowed. It may be silly, but Iā€™ve always attempted to still get my heart rate up and hit my workouts no matter how sick I get...Iā€™ve also had swine flu in the past...very compromised immune system from pre-existing conditions...I catch everything. But rarely does anything truly take me out of my routine, and I personally attribute that to my philosophy of ā€œkeep moving, and picking up heavy s***ā€
I can second this, from a non-Covid standpoint. Two years back, I spent three weeks in the ICU on a ventilator, with a rare allergic response. Had it happened six months earlier, I probably wouldnā€™t have made itā€”but in a fortunate coincidence, I had spent the previous three months getting healthy, running three days a week, keeping active on my off-days, and eating healthier.

It is impossible to overstate the importance of having an active, healthy lifestyle, in terms of fighting off disease.

If the world was a free market then that would be one thing, but that is not what we have.

Here you comply with government regulations, you comply with laws, you adhere to environmental safeguards, etc. There you can pollute as much as you want, use child labor or slave labor, the government props up your business by giving you money to take market segments (eg steel), etc.

There are certain protections Americans need to have in order to have a level playing field to compete. Typically, theyā€™re tariffs but in some cases need to be codified into law. We shouldnā€™t just be allowing China for example to take jobs from our country because they pay off some elitist globalist owner(s) and their political cronies so they can increase their national power at our expense. They throw a anti-racist veil over the top of the crap
pile and expect us to roll over and play dead. Crazy how these people think.

Why shouldn't they think that way? it's been working to enrich them for nigh on 50 years....

I started taking them daily 3 months ago when the data showed over 96% of the victims had extremely low levels of vit D and/or zinc.
Another thing our doctors/politicians should be ashamed of is NOBODY has said a damn word about how to fight this thing in a long term capacity like getting and staying healthy. Lose weight, eat healthy, stop pounding alcohol, get tons of daylight/vitD, workout, etc. to boost your overall health, thatā€™s how your immune system swats this thing away like a fly.

It isn't completely true, but the list of conditions at risk for COVID has a large number of conditions that can be caused by eating poorly and not exercising. Obesity, heart issues, Type 2 Diabetes all can be caused by not taking care of your body. Smoking can cause lung issues which is another at risk factor. There are other conditions that aren't caused by neglecting to take care of your body like cancer and sickle cell disease. Not all people who are obese, have heart issues, and Type 2 Diabetes have neglected their bodies. However, it does appear that most people who neglect to take care of their bodies are in a category of risk.

I remember when it was spreading in Europe and a doctor mentioned how it affects mostly the elderly and people with pre-existing conditions. This was in the context of what to expect when it spreads in the States. But before he got off, he reminded the interviewer that obesity could be a pre existing condition that worsens the impact of Covid. He said that in light of the fact how fat we are in the States.

In a morbid way, I always check the articles that lead with ā€œcovid took my healthy (son, daughter father etc)ā€ and sure enough they all seem to be very fat.

In short, folks on here need to jump on the scale next time they say ā€œjust lock up the old folksā€ bc weā€™ve got an obesity problem in our country. Father in law just got over it, 50s,ā€œhealthyā€, from alabama. It was really bad. He was stunned, hes not that old, no ā€œpre existing conditionsā€....except heā€™s overweight. In alabama, theyā€™d call him chunky but most other parts of the world (and medically) heā€™s obese.

Donā€™t disagree. But that was kind of my point. There is a balance between capitalism and reasonable regulation that we need to find and it needs to be adjusted on an ongoing basis. But where we are now is light years from socialism even is we do adjust.

The sense of entitlement in this country is too great to beat this virus. All thatā€™s left is hope for a vaccine.

its very depressing. 150k dead already and far more before we get a vaccine and/or better treatment.

150k dead Americans in 5 months. How anyone can be so cavalier about these losses is unconscionable. Iā€™d even argue the antithesis of a ā€œpatriotā€. Unbelievable. Every other developed country did what they had to do to get this under control. Theyā€™ll have sports, travel, family holidays, all w/out the shadow of this virus. But not us in America. This will be a very interesting read in 20 years.

Here's the 7/28/2020 GA Covid situation report.

The bad news is some regions are literally down to their last ICU beds, and several others have less than 10 ICU beds available. The good news is that GA ventilator usage is at 45% (1270 of 2848 ventilators) which is a sign that ICU cases are not severe given that doctors have now figured out that ventilator usage should only be applied in the serious cases.

Overall, it looks like infections in GA has plateaued a bit, but unfortunately our 7 day moving average is plateauing near highs. The trend for deaths also matches the infections in that the 7 day moving average for deaths is plateauing near highs.

Right now it appears state leaders are in a wait it out mode so we'll see what happens over the next few weeks leading up to school openings.

Georgia is just going thru the media frenzy about running out of ICU beds that Florida did. Weā€™re 3 months from the election and itā€™s time to score points. As soon as Florida had its fill of ICU media hysteria to make the point, the ICU bed tracking frenzy vanished. It will in Georgia as well but will take 2 weeks. Thatā€™s about the length of the cycle. There was no systemic issue in Florida, just a couple hospitals within counties that were nearing capacity. A handful of patients needed to go 5 mi up or down the road for treatment until the surge vanished the next day. It literally went away that quickly.

Brazil, Sweden, France, the U.K.,!Spain, Italy - all had more per capita deaths than us. And thatā€™s not including all the deaths they admit to from people who died at home because their hospitals were full. Many countries canā€™t test like we do, so their deaths are way undercounted. There are some countries like Germany who we know based on how they do things that their numbers are fairly accurate. The biggest reason we stick out is our total media and government dysfunction (and how fat we are). If you didnā€™t watch yesterdayā€™s testimony in Congress, you owe it to yourself to carve out time to. Many of those people should be shipped off to a deserted island to starve to death. I donā€™t know if other countries can see our social media commentary, but we do have a level of ignorance that is shocking on both sides of the aisle. The ā€œEverybody hide under a rock!ā€ And ā€œall the numbers are made upā€ crowd.
