We’re already collecting an obscene amount of money in taxes and once politicians start taxing something like any other addictive behavior it’s very very difficult to stop. If it was up to me, 100% would be a tax credit not just a deduction. I’d much rather have GT get my money than some money grubbing wasteful DC bureaucrat or some moronic mutt loving GA parasite that’s spent their whole life subsisting off the government tit.

I am a big fan of drastically lowering the tax rate, but then removing all the deductions. Then, our government can't control or influence (or be influenced by) companies and rich fat cats. If there are no deductions, what would GE or Bill Gates lobby government for? But this is exactly why we will never really be able to clean up our tax code. There are too many people with their hands out. In the current tax bill (as I understand it), you can deduct your property taxes up to $10,000. Well that surely will cover anybody who considers themselves in the middle class. If you live in California in a $750,000 house and pay $20,000 a year in property taxes, you probably don't consider yourself rich. But come on, you're living there on purpose. Nobody wants to give up anything. A lot of Republicans voted against the House bill specifically because of this - nevermind that THE TAX RATES WERE GETTING CUT ON INCOME. I mean, if your tax rate drops 3% and you made $150,000 lets say, living in California. That's $4,500 less in federal income taxes you'll pay. And losing $10,000 worth of property tax deductions if your tax rate is 25% (I'm swagging a lot of this just for illustration), costs you $2,500 net. You still come out way ahead.

Given the tax bill is estimated to increase the deficit by $1,500,000,000,000 over 10 years, I think people voting for it have lost their minds. We need to reduce the deficit, not increase it.

Overspending leads to the end of empires.

Yes. But no one in DC is in favor of cutting spending. None of them. Our leaders are failing us. It's past time (and too late now) for some national referendums on spending and social programs.....what a slippery slope that is as well. More are on the government dime than off it. Why would they vote for deductions in services they benefit from? They won't. We are screwed and in decline as a nation.

Yes our tax code is broken and a new one that would level the playing field would be very attractive. Let Illinois, California and New York/New Jersey/Maryland/Pennsylvania/Connecticut/Taxachusetts tax the hell out of themselves to pay for all their socialism and leave the rest of the nation alone. Hope I didn’t leave out any states that are tax abusers.

Man if we could actually make this happen. Socialists could migrate to socialist states and the independents could move to free states. Everyone would be happy.

Except for the winters up north. Nevermind, Cali has room for illegals so surely they have room for like minded socialists from other states...and no hinky antics necessary to make their votes valid.(y)
