Wow, hard not to be optimistic. Before Christian, we were 19th PG total points but more importantantly 11th in average player points. That will go up.

He's our 7th pitcher of 10 commits. Not all will show up, some will get drafted and go and others may look at the competition on our team and go to where they will get more playing time. This guy unfortunately for us will likely be drafted high enough to have a tough choice. As a rising Jr has a 91 mph FB. Sick.

How is it he is from Texas but last played for East Cobb Astros 17U? Just a game or summer ball thing?

You mean....we're recruiting extremely well, and we shouldn't Fire Danny Hall???

Is that right?? LOL

What will we all say next season when we (finally) lose a game??????????

Hall (w assist from TStan) is in process of turning the tide & doing something rarely seen.... coming back & overtaking "the game" ... after it (the game) had "passed him by"

Actually... pretty interesting to witness.

Advancing in the NCAAs will be very interesting to witness.

Although PG doesn't have a ranking for Christian listed, our ranking increased to #14 (from 19) total points but more importantly #8 (from 11) on average points per player. He is in their top 100 since 3 of our 10 commits are top 100, up 1.

Of course these numbers are going to change as kids commit and decommit and get drafted, but good situation to be in. Good trend.
2019 - 26th in average point per player (#4 overall due to extremely large class).
2020 - 13th in average point per player (#18 overall ).
2021 - 8th in average point per player (#14 overall ).

Hey there. Christian Okerholm's dad here. Super excited to be part of the swarm!
He's currently ranked #91 overall nationally and #24 RHP nationally, #8 overall in TX and #2 RHP in Perfect Game.
(you have to have a membership to see their stats I think)

We all are so excited about his commitment.

FYI, even though he should be in the mid 90s late Spring/summer this Junior year assuming he continues to put on more weight and progress with his pitching coach - you guys have nothing to worry about, he's going to College.
We're an academic family and he told the coaches last week, he's coming to school to get an education and get better prepared for the draft in 2024.

Christian was recruited nationally to play in the WWBAs this fall as his local travel team in Austin doesn't travel in Fall and he wanted to get more exposure on the East Coast. We chose East Cobb Astros over Team Elite. He had a wonderful WWBA in Ft Meyers and Phenomenal outing in Jupiter; pitched a "Perfect Game" in Jupiter and that's where DBo & Jaffee saw him. DBo clocked him at 92.

I'm here to let you guys know the recruiting classes are only going to get stronger and you will be attracting guys that would normally look at a Vandy or Arkansas, etc. because of DBo and the SICK pitching lab he's putting in opening in 2021. It's freaking awesome!

This is now the "new Pitching U" and you will see kids flocking to come here.

There will be some crazy talent coming this way and will be exciting for everyone.

Thank you for the kind words about Christian and we're pumped to be here!

If you're around and want to see Christian and other committed guys in action, the plan is to be back in the area playing in Perfect Game tournaments next summer with East Cobb Astros.

The BIG ones next summer are as follows:
Since Christian isn't going for the Draft, the recommendation was to skip Area Code (August) and give the arm a longer break.
Fall will be WWBA Jupiter in October and that's probably it.

Sorry if I'm over sharing. Just super excited at GT Baseball and elated with his commitment and coaching staff.

bit of a change and some of the other guys in the 21 class will be at a few of these.
Cool that a few of the 21 class are in a groupme chat already and talking. Really cool. Great idea!

High School Baseball starts for Christian 2/21 due to basketball. We aren't allowed to participate in 2 sports at the same time.
59 days till HS Ball.
170 days til Summer ball!!

Some 2021 classes recruiting like gang busters.
  • Vandy now with 19,
  • Arkansas now with 18.
  • Louisville now has 16
  • UVA now has 14
  • Duke lost one and is down to 12
  • Auburn now 11
  • surprised Notre Dame actually now has 12. New coaching staff and all this summer.....

something happened in 2021 class rankings.
Florida International (was #11) lost 3 recruits and dropped to #18.
https://www.perfectgame.org/rankings/Recruiting/Rankings.aspx

GT now #13 in 2021.

Rank sorted by Top %age of Top 100 and GT jumps to 7

9th for Avg Player Points.
I can't imagine recruiting is done for the class with only 10, so that should jump as the top talent continues to migrate here

Vandy with 20....Good Lord. So many guys get cut.....
Opportunity Vanderbilt, does not make recruitment very fair. But the Privates have "funny money" to play with, endowments, and all. Cheaper to go to Vandy than Tennessee.
Stanford's assistance was going to be ridiculous as well.

Alabama State also caught my eye in the last 2. Alabama State?

Only two commits, one of whom is top 100. That ranking will not stand.

I like the average points per player best. Shows the depth of the class. Some will develop and some won't but starting at a higher potential level.

At some point, I'll add up Vandy's number of commits for the last four years and our and a few others. @eokerholm is right, the private schools like Vandy and Stanford have a tremendous financial advantage. Couple that with academic reputation / diversity and ability to get players who go onto the MLB and that explains the overall strength of their programs.
