How about Jimenez?
Gotta give credit where it's due. He did a good job
He did slam the door shut last night. I also want to shout out Jesse Chavez who is the ageless wonder in a Braves uniform. The dude has a 1.21 ERA this year even though he can barely get it to 90mph. Something in the water in Atlanta helps him to pitch for us and only us...

Maybe he has the reverse Magic City flu?

Didn’t see the game, but at first glance I thought, why the heck did Snit use 3 relievers in a 7-0 game? Lopez didn’t have his best stuff allowing 8 baserunners in 5 IP. Still, 93 pitches in a hot afternoon is about as far as he’s trained to go. Good win.

Off to the Yanks.

if Duvall’s BA keeps dropping toward negative infinity, yet another OF.
Duvall is having some career level struggles. Over at baseball-reference.com for stats, he is hitting at the lowest BABip of his career at only .204, yet his HardH% is the 4th highest of his career. Most of his other numbers are similar to the remainder of his career. Realistically, he is hitting the ball hard and having terrible luck for base hits. The question is, how long can the analytics keep him in the lineup vs. the eyeball test going wow, look at that .173 BA.

Yep. I checked the Braves team BABIP a week or so ago prior to their current surge. At that time it was middle of the road, but their hard hit rate was top 3.

This may indicate that they are hitting the ball either straight at a fielder or they are hitting a lot of long fly balls. The Braves are a HR team (and Duval a HR hitter), therefore having a high average launch angle. Balls hit hard with a high average launch angle are typically either HRs or long outs in MLB. The Braves have hit only about 80 HRs this season to date (~45% of the season) having hit over 300 in 2023. Something’s up and it hurts a guy like Duval.

I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly, but it seems like I heard that MLB went back towards a more "dead" baseball this year. Again, I could just be going crazy, but I feel like I've heard that. Not that the ball is the sole reason for our massive unlucky streak this year, but it could be a contributing factor possibly. Another possibility is that after last year's historic offense, we just became too homerun happy and haven't focused on driving people in and passing the baton to the next guy. Either way, we seem to be finding our groove just a little bit and are very very slowly creeping back on the Phillies.

I’m not sure either. Total HRs for the NL this season are about 5% off last season’s pace, which, at roughly 3000 HRs,,would be about 150 for the league on the season. While probably a statistically significant variation, for 15 teams, that’s about 10 per team. Hardly enough to cause what has happened to the Braves thus far. Not sure that supports a dead ball theory.

Aaron Boone is crazy for getting thrown out there. Bummer got hosed a couple times B6 that would have gotten him out of the inning before the damage was too bad, but as soon as T7 comes around and the Yanks don’t get a call, Stroman and Boone lose their minds and Boone gets the heave-ho. Mind you the Yanks were leading 7–1 at the time.

At least Snit only used 3 pitchers in that stinker. Did I say how amazed I am?

It was clear from the beginning that Morton was going to get squeezed and he plays with the corners when he’s sharp. Squeeze him and he’s below average.

C’est la vie.

And Fried does his thing again. He, Sale, and Lopez are very good this season. Morton can be good as well if the dang ump will not squeeze him. The 5th is the dropoff.
I do really like Schwellenbach at the 5th spot. There are going to be ups and downs with him but his stuff is legit.

Schwellenbach earned a reprieve last week. Prior to that he was destined to be sent back to Texas.
Yeah, finding a solid 5th seems to be the plague this year. Good thing is you only need 3 in the playoffs and someone to get you through the order once as a 4th. Fried, Sale, and Lopez are a solid 3 with Morton getting us a 4th. He's too umpire dependent for me to trust him as part of the 3, but he can be lights out in the playoffs so who knows.

Had a few questions for the group. My answers in itslics:

What do yall think they need to do to improve the lineup?

Shld they be looking for a SS upgrade? Arcia seems to be a great glue guy and an outstanding glove, so I can see them trying to stick with him.

Do they need a big acquisition in the OF? I'd like to see them go after Luis Roberts but at what cost? I ran across a blurb suggesting the Braves shld be careful not to mortgage too much of the future chasing a title this year. A major move would definitely further deplete the system.

Do they just ride it out and hope things gel? I kinda think they'll make a few minor moves but remain hopeful for a splash (or 2).

Definitely not OF. Harris returns from the hammy soon, hopefully. Kelenik is playing well now. Just platoon Duvall/Laureano in the OF. Too little prospect capital to use for too little upside.

I ride with Arcia, too. He’s having a bery forgettable year, but he’s a career .270 hitter ao maybe this is an outlier. He’s still a solid fielder and a good dugout guy.

Ride with Arcia, try to find a new OF. Arcia is hitting terrible but at least started hot and is providing minimal positive WAR (0.3 on the season). Duvall has been bad from the start, is at -0.7 WAR and is a borderline unplayable bat at a corner OF position. I don't think we should sell the farm for anybody but I'm interested in what a rental of Tommy Pham or Michael Conforto would cost.
