I have a sneaky suspicion that’s going to haunt us.
Maybe, but at what point do you allow the youth to develop? Baldwin has a great bat, and IMO, Murphy relies on playing daily to have consistency. I don’t think he is a guy who thrives on getting every third day off.

IMPO, Baldwin needs to play every day to complete his development.

As for Murphy, he needs to stay healthy to play more regularly. I agree he would benefit from catching 110 games a year.

So, did you hear AA’s interview? Goes on and on about Fried, and keeping elite rotation guys, then concludes that they have to replace 59 starts out of last year’s rotation: Morton and Fried. It was a “you speak with forked tongue” moment, IMO.

I think he's more worried about playing his cards close to the vest in interviews than talking out of both sides of his mouth. I would love if for once he gave a straightforward answer, but with Fried being a free agent now, he may be constrained as to what exactly he can say.

TDA's farewell message to Atlanta:
Travis d’Arnaud shared this message on Instagram: "Atlanta, thank you for everything. Ever since my brother played here, you have been amazing to me and my family. I feel like I was not only part of the team, but part of the city. Thank you to all the fans, the coaches, the staff, and most importantly the players. I made a lot of lifelong friendships and hope for nothing but the best always. Every one of y'all made driving to the field feel like a blessing. I will be forever grateful for everything. World Champs for life!"

Well done, Travis! We will miss you!

Anybody else tired of hearing that the Dodgers and Mets are going to sign every big-name free agent? There was a whole segment on MLB Radio this morning about how the Mets were going to sign Corbin Burnes and Juan Soto and how the Dodgers were going to sign Roki Sisaki and somehow also sign Corbin Burnes.

Also of note, it seems like the Red Sox are the frontrunners for Max Fried's services. Seems like a decent enough fit for him and they desperately need a lefty as I heard they didn't have a single left-handed pitcher start a game in 2024. They want either him or Blake Snell.

So AA is going to let a LH ace ($25M/year) walk away, one who knows and likes ATL and whose fans like him, and will sign another LH ace ($25M/year) who has never played in ATL and who the fans don’t know?

Makes no sense to me.

Who is the other lefty? (Sorry if I have missed something).
From what I have gathered from the tea leaves we aren't in on Snell but would rather grab Eovaldi (not likely IMO) and possibly Buehler (more likely). I would much rather sign Max, but history is definitely not on our side here.

I was thinking Eovaldi, thinking he is a LHP. He is also 4 years older than Max.

Yeah but why would he do it? Why does it matter from his end, as the player?
A few reasons:

1. He will make more money than the QO is worth.
2. By declining it he is free to sign with any team.
3. If he would have accepted it, he would have had to play for the Braves and risked something happening (i.e. injury or bad performance) that would negatively impact his value for the next free agency cycle.

The QO is mainly there for the club, not necessarily for the player. It's how clubs can still get value out of a player even though the player walked in free agency. Nick Martinez was the one exception to this year's batch that wouldn't have made more in free agency than he would have under the QO.

The Braves offer a one-year contract at the QO rate. For Fried that was $21.5M. If he accepts, he stays with the Braves for another year. If he rejects, then the Braves get a comp pick in the upcoming draft.

Got it. I figured he was always going to sign for more dollars and years so the QO would effectively be rejected regardless.

But I figured, from a timing standpoint, it'd happen basically simultaneously when he signed somewhere. Just nitpicking on my end, I guess.

Chris Sale with the NL Cy Young Award!

WTG, Chris!!! You make us proud!
After the trade was announced for Sale, a Red Sox buddy of mine who loves to trash on the Braves was gloating about how the Sox just fleeced the Braves and overwhelmingly won this trade. I told him that AA makes trades for a reason and not to get ahead of himself. Looks like, again, AA knew what he was doing as Grissom ended up being the one injured for a large part of the year.
