Again, I'm not saying he treats any recruits/players wrong at all! I'm saying there are people out there who don't get the opportunity to meet him in person who have this opinion because of how he is perceived. And the perception is largely a result of how he carries himself in the media.

Ok, I'm wrong - CPJ is doing everything he can to help his public image and people don't think he comes across as a jerk oftentimes.
More likely you are wrong because you choose to ignore the simplest answer: he is what he is and will not pose otherwise. I sometimes wish he would make his compliments direct and open and not backhanded, but this is what he is. We'd probably get a big laugh out of any pretense from him: about as believable as pro rasslin'.

The praise for the rookies continued when Belichick was asked about guard Shaq Mason, the fourth-round pick out of Georgia Tech.

"Probably one of the most athletic offensive linemen I've coached," he said. "He'd certainly been in that upper category, the upper part of that conversation. He runs well, has got very good balance, short space quickness, and he's light on his feet."

Now just get thru that bothersome rookie contract and GET PAID!

I personally don't think CPJ is a strong recruiter, no I don't have anything more than my opinion on that.

I have to ask you a question to clarify your comment. One premise is that Paul Johnson was hired because he brought his Flexbone Spread Option Offense to GA Tech to help us be competitive against teams that have a lot of 4 and 5 Star Recruits (because the Georgia Board of Regents and The Hill have put major restrictions on our Football Recruiting options so we rarely get high ranking recruits). His Offense allows him to bring in Recruits other teams don't take and make them play well in HIS system, and he ultimately puts his stamp of approval on who gets an offer.

If our Offense has been successful, which it has been, statistically, then one would logically have to conclude that Paul Johnson IS a strong recruiter, wouldn't it?

Given the obstacles I think he has done well. But if we follow your argument then the defense must be put into play, and then there is that pesky dilemma at quarterback. I don't know what the evolution in run/pass QBs has been with the popularity of the shotgun spread, but my gut feeling is that QBs who can do both much prefer being six yards back with more time to make a decision so the pool is pretty small. Regardless we have been fallow there until Thomas, but then last year happened. (This is not to reopen the tired "different offense" argument. Just an observation.)

Personally, I think we need something that makes us "unique" so that we have a chance to compete against teams that have the supposed "better" athletes and deeper benches, and if our style of Offense, with Paul Johnson calling the plays, gives us the "edge" opposing defenses and defensive coordinators have to worry about, then I think that speaks volumes about whether we have the right Head Coach or not, and, personally, I think we do.

No doubt we have had issues with our defense, and I can't say it's because we can't recruit the "right guys" because of our academic issues, or because our players go against our running option offense more than other styles so they just aren't as instinctively reacting in "normal" offense's other teams run (I assume that's one of the arguments opposing recruiters use against us). Bottom line is that we've had really good players on defense playing under Paul Johnson, but they typically haven't played together or we just haven't had good "units" (other than the last part of 2014).
