This. I am NO gardener but my understanding is that bermuda is tight, resilient and springy in part because it quickly forms a tighter, thicker network of roots close to the surface than other grasses. Those who work on their lawns harder than I do :) please correct if wrong.
The secret to suburban lawn care is simple, though it takes years to learn: keep it on the verge of death.

Thanks for the info, also, why don't they just bag the grass clippings when they mow?
Bermuda dies when it freezes. You can remove all of the dead stuff every spring (dethatching) but some turf specialist don't recommend it as that process can lead to diseases. Also, when you remove the dead stuff through that mechanical process it usually removes most of the stems above ground that sprout the new growth. This can delay the greening up and thickening of the lawn/field. Aerating bermuda in the spring is also process that benefits bermuda greatly but I believe that the cost/benefits of various maintenance techniques on athletic fields shows that it better rip it all up every so often than take the risks of not having as good of a surface in September if you dethatch and aerate.

It needs to be trained to grow a thick, low mat. Reel type mowers, like used on golf courses, are best suited to accomplish this.

My impression is that the movement for stadiums over the last few years has been away from artificial turf back towards grass. I love the sod. Hope we stick with it.

Sod just looks better, IMO. The other advantage is that it absorbs the heater better, so those September games are a tad cooler. I believe all our roads games this season are on grass and only artificial surface last season was Tulane.

I pulled up the entire south end zone goal line. That adhesive was something
to be used on baseboards for sure
I remember visiting a friend late at night that was practicing lacrosse on the "turf" (First time I was out in the middle of the field) I was completely unimpressed with the big sections duct taped together around midfield.
