..... is on a losing streak. They lost to Northeastern 2-1 yesterday. They had only won the first 15 before that. https://d1baseball.com/team/auburn/

Mid-week their scores have been 3-2 over Ga Southern, 6-5 over Troy; 7-6 over South Alabama and 11-8 over UAB. So we have a chance if we score more runs than they do :cautious:

Hope we start English to get him some innings and have the typical staff day.

I’m sure it will be another dumpster fire pitching performance lead by our antiquated coach and his nepotistic ways. I wouldn’t be surprised to see one of the bros as our starting Friday pitcher pretty soon

What makes us think Hall is going to groom English for a starting role later this year? I am not sure we have any really reliable closers beyond Datoc (who hasn't been consistent himself). I am under the impression (no proof) that English will remain a closer this year...and maybe move to starting next year.

That's my impression too. I think that we have 2 great starters who will give us a chance to win in Curry and Thomas. I'm afraid that Hurter and Chapman will be inconsistent all year, but they need to learn and get experience. English, Archer, Gibson, Datoc, and Carpenter need to be the main guys out of the pen. Shirah should get time out of the pen too. He has great stuff and needs to be a reliable lefty out of the pen.

Statistically... pretty evenly matched. Auburn works a lot of walks. Tech has to manage (better) to get runners home that get on base. At some point (may already be there), it gets in your head and that's no good.

Thanks for that summary. On first glance there are a lot of similarities in there. Their pitchers give up about 1.7 fewer hits per game, which translates into about 1.2 fewer runs per game. So about a 1 run advantage on the pitching side. On the hitting side, they squeeze out a little more than 2 more base runners from walks per game, and probably do a better job of minimizing runners left in scoring position, as they score nearly 3 more runs per game on a lower hit volume.

Maybe we don't have any reliable closers but losing the game in the first inning isn't very satisfying. Gotta get to the closers when there still is a game to close.

True on the stats above. But they are the total stats for weekend and mid-week games. Auburn seems to do a lot better on the weekends than the mid-week games. (3-2 over Ga Southern, 6-5 over Troy; 7-6 over South Alabama and 11-8 over UAB)

So I'm glad it's mid-week and not a weekend (sweep). Auburn is going to be focused on getting ready for SEC play this weekend.

I look for Chapman to start at Auburn.

Yup, that's what is on RamblinWreck. http://www.ramblinwreck.com/sports/m-basebl/spec-rel/031218aaa.html

With an 8.1 ERA, I hope Hall has a real short leash and the game is competitive past the first inning. Hall won't unless he changes what he's been doing for the last decade. So let's pray Chapman has control.

But let me also give credit to Hall for pitching FR who will benefit us in later years with their experience. Better to pitch marginal young players than those who will be gone next year and should have developed by this time. I still cringe at the thought of throwing up (intentional double entendre) a RSr (Pitts) who wasn't reliable two years ago. That was done at the expense of developing younger players for the future IMHO.

After first inning, I've seen enough of Chapman. Why the hell didn't Hall have someone warming up when Chapman (predictably) got in trouble??????? Nick Sheerer (sic) says that Chapman only has his fastball under control. 29 pitches, 16 strikes in first inning. 2 walks.

Glad Waddell made a really nice play for the first out or it'd be another 0-7 start.

Down 2-0 at least we aren't embarrassed yet. May even win the game.

"It" is not funny. But @GTNavyNuke ...you kinda are. You need to consider the jinx factor... you may be culpable here. ;)
