Your sentiment is shared by many. I'm not one of those. Do I think the guy took some plays off last year? Yes, I believe he did. But I also know that he was really good friends with a guy named Marcus Lattimore, who was as sure of a "sure thing" at running back as there ever was before he tore up his knee twice. If Clowney had been able to go pro one year earlier, nobody would have said "he takes plays off" because he was a hustling baller at that point. But I do think he played often times not to get hurt last year because he didn't want to take a chance at damaging the one asset he had which could potentially have made him millions of dollars. Will he be a good pro? Nobody can tell. But I can say this with little hesitation. Aundray Bruce was NEVER the physical specimen this kid was. The athleticism, strength, size and quickness that this guy has is something that comes along very rarely. So he has the physical skills to succeed if his drive to excel turns out to match that. Regarding OL, I hope like hell the Falcons don't go OL in the first round. The only OT in that group I think is worthy of a top 6 pick is Robinson but I think he's gone before the Falcons get to pick. I know everyone seems to love Matthews because of pedigree and measurables and his "quick first step" but I'll go back to what I saw on TV. I saw people constantly running past him last year at A&M. If he had been protecting Andrew Luck or Matt Ryan instead of Manziel, I honestly don't think the kid would likely be a first round projection. I believe Manziel saved his bacon by escaping from pressure over & over again. If you don't believe me, go back and watch some of the A&M games and see just how many times Matthew got his arse handed to him in pass blocking. And FWIW, the Falcons are a pass first team.
