Win the draft lottery and #1 overall pick.

We were cooking a couple years ago with the ECF team but fan support and team success has been lackluster since. Will Alex Sarr mark a turning point?

I'm mentally preparing myself for us to draft Bronny in the hopes of luring Lebron.... I know it sounds stupid, but it's just stupid enough that the Hawks would probably consider it. Our upper management decision making has been horrific since that ECF run where we got swept by Lebron's Cavs.

Quiet as it's kept, it's been just as horrific since the ECF run a few years ago. All they did was trade multiple starters for no actual replacements (to save money). Then look around confused why the team didn't get better.

Some players got older. They also traded players like Kevin Huerter to make room for other players who didn’t pan out.

In isolation, you can explain any single move. Together, they add up to having a lottery pick again. None of the moves seem to work.

Maybe they can replicate the 2005 draft where they picked UNC's Marvin Williams with the 2nd pick for his "athleticism and length" and passed on WF's Chris Paul who was openly telling everyone that he wanted to be picked by the Hawks. They doubled down in 2006 by taking Duke's Shelden Williams with the 6th pick. He is best known for marrying Candice Parker and having a cone head.

Sadly, having lived in Atlanta for over 50 years, I'm not expecting the Hawks to turn this into gold. I have long since learned to keep my expectations low to reduce my disappointment level. The Williams and Williams scenarios are great examples as to why. Also, I was not in favor of the Luka and Trae trade back in 2018, even though I understand the lure of an additional lottery protected first round pick in 2019.
Cam Reddish was picked with that the slot in 2019...

I knew at the time dumping Huerter was stupid. He had played good defense, shot the 3, and played smart in the run to the ECF. It was an over reaction from signing Murray. Not that having Huerter now would solve all their problems but it was just dumb. He is better than Hunter. We got a 2024 first round top 14 pick protected in return. So I guess it's this year's late 1st rounder? I think Young and Murray have to be broken up - it just doesn't work.

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. We had Luka in hand, and traded for Trae (hit) and Cam (miss).
I watched that trade on a plane, and even I was saying “what are you doing???”

Yeah, when Luka fell to us I thought we were the luckiest team in the world, then we pull that crap and mess ourselves up. In the short term, it looked like an even trade, but now it's obvious we lost that trade.

I haven’t really followed the Hawks in years, and don’t know what they need, but I saw a couple of bigs in the NCAAT that could make any NBA team better. Maybe start in the middle and build out? I dunno.
