Fred,do you think Dave Martinez will be canned if somehow the Nationals don't make the Playoffs? I think in that situation it would be possible that he would be fired.
That's a great question. I don't think so... the early season struggles have been attributed to injuries. He's been given a ton of the credit for not panicking & holding clubhouse together.

In my view.... that is all true. I give Nats a coin flip 50/50 they straighten things out enough to make wildcard. Their demise is fatigue I think. The fact they've had to work so hard to recover from their start seems to be catching up with them.

@Milwaukee ...did you think hitting Cuthberson was intentional? You don't want to hear this. But if you think for a second Cuthberson was hit intentionally... I vehemently disagree.

I cannot recall... all year the Nationals throwing at anyone that way. There is no evidence of any bad blood between these teams. But most significant is the situation in the game. Plunking the batter in a 1-1 game with no outs that would load bases... no way that was the intent right there.

I hope he is okay. Terrible to ever see that happen.
I know nothing of his control history and was totally unsure if intentional .maybe just tryin to pitch inside.
Announcers said no way it was intentional. I'll assume they're right.
I still think he he gets hit if he ever bats agin the braves (just on principle)
Snit didn't seem to have any info on his condition just thet he was awake and alert in ambulance ....hoping for best

Totally agree. It was not intentional, it just really sucked that it happened at all. Especially to Charlie. Fan favorite and great family man from what I hear from the locals. You could tell Rodney was shaken up afterwards. I just don’t think there was a person in that stadium other than blue that would’ve called that a strike, especially after an appeal. If he swung at the ball, yes. But it was a bunt attempt, and a borderline call at best. As an umpire there, that’s a no brainer. He gets first base. So proud of Snit after the game showing that emotion for Charlie. He obviously loves his players. Same reason I always loved/ loves 6.

I do think it was intentional. He knew he was trying to bunt so he threw high and tight. That being said, I don’t think he wanted to destroy Charlie’s face like he did at all, but he definitely was trying to throw chin music to make the batter uncomfortable with the bunt attempt. Just my opinion.

**** Rodney.

The fact it was called a strike was indeed whacked. Which makes the request for an appeal pretty disappointing as a Nationals fan. Not a good look.

Sunday: Culberson fractured a bone in his cheek on the play, tweets David O’Brien of the Athletic. There is no other information yet available about the full extent of Culberson’s injuries or his timetable for a return.

Seems like he will be eating/drinking soup, jello, ice cream. Personally, I’m not a yogurt guy-unless it’s of the frozen variety.

I doubt this will happen. Our pitchers have shown this year that they’re not gonna protect our hitters. DK is the only one who has done so, so maybe being around him will teach our young studs Soroka and Fried the unspoken rules of baseball. Teheran has no excuse for not plunking a few this season when he should have. God I love DK.

Stupid "part of the game" ... needs to go away.
