The 1st place in the NL East 51-36 Atlanta Braves win 9-2 over the 2nd place in the NL East 45-41 Philadelphia Phillies. The winning pitcher for the Braves is 1-0 Bryse Wilson and the losing pitcher for the Phillies is 4-3 Nick Pivetta. The Braves lead the NL East by 5.5 games over the Phillies and 6.0 games over the Nationals.

That Harper milestone is all they will talk about in the media. Let’s not forget that a rookie, Austin Riley, in half the games Harper has played this year, has one less home run, including a 3 run bomb tonight. Harper said after the game that “I’ll enjoy it, of course they beat us and that’s part of the game. I’m excited about it, it’s a pretty cool moment.” Someone not as egocentric would’ve phrased that a lot differently. Maybe like “It was a nice moment, but we lost the game and that’s all that matters, I need to do more to help the team win tomorrow.” I notice he didn’t comment on grounding into a double play earlier in the game. I can’t stand Harper if it’s not apparent haha.

I’ve liked Riley since seeing him in Rome and Gwinnett. He hasn’t been up two months and has 15 blasts with 40 driven in. Average right near .270, which is respectable for a guy mainly in the 6th spot. I think he will hit better next to Freddie, while playing 3B. Not that he has embarrassed himself one bit in LF(credit him with making that immediate transition; Chipper Jones struggled with it). Counting AAA, A.R. has 30 HR, 79 RBI in 2019 prior to the All-Star break.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Christian Pache, Drew Waters, as corner OF’s next year. Pache could even play everyday in CF, should Acuna rather play a corner spot. Hopefully, the Braves don’t trade these guys-as teams were asking about Austin last year when he was in the high Minor Leagues in Mississippi & Gwinnett.

So do you think the Braves will keep Josh Donaldson on the team in 2020 or let him go?

Bryce Harper is a very overrated player and wont be in the Hall of Fame in my opinion:cigar:

I don’t because of age and stature. He’s certainly going to try to parlay this season into a multi-year. Basically the same HR, RBI, as Riley(294 AB @.252 avg. vs. 173 AB @.266 B.Avg. for Austin in comparison). The Braves have control of A.R. into his late 20’s, plus Camargo and Culberson could play there(No more Freeman at 3B, experiments). I do think Josh has proved he can still play the game at a high level if he can stay away from injuries. He plays hard. Intangibly a winner. Is he worth 23 m. again? Yes, for a team in need. These older players have to be taking notice of how long it took Harper, Keuchel, Kimbrel to get satisfying contracts.

If we can’t get another starter in a trade(we reached our 131m. payroll, already), the Braves need to start analyzing who they can trade before the deadline without hurting the team in performance, to make room in salary. Donaldson, Tehran might be expendable. I don’t think o’Day-sie or the rear-Ender Inciarte have too much value to dump right now. The farm kids don’t have salaries above the minimum except Duvall, and his is below moderate if prorated.

Walter Banks bobble head night is tomorrow. Great man, wonderful friend!

Walter Banks is a legend:cool:
He worked almost 20 years at Gate 1 Visitors Side @BDS-GF and also AMC(The Big Tit)facing 10th street traffic, the non-student side.

My brick was close to his at Turner Field, so when they moved to Cobb, I requested right next to his since we’ve known each other over 40 years. The Braves told me, everybody wants to be next to him. Lol!!
