2024 non-GT games thread

Its a shame they didn't get to play UNC and Miami I guess. Against common opponents (Wake, Syracuse, Louisville, BC, UVA) they went 4-1 while we went 3-2. Their average margin of victory was 15.6 points. Ours was 6.2 points. If they were as awful as you claim then we were pretty awful as well.

They also lost to 4-8 Purdue, 7-6 Rutgers, and 6-7 Marshall. Our worst losses were to 7-6 Bowling Green and 7-6 Boston College.

Nowhere have I claimed they were awful. They were not very good, and neither were we, but there is a chasm between very good and awful that you are trying desperately to jump.

As I've said elsewhere, anybody feeling nostalgic for the spread option can watch Army or Navy games. Both teams use shotgun formations about 1/3rd of the time, but it's the good old spread option the rest of the way, especially for Army. "But, but," I hear y6ou say, "the rule changes make the spread option impossible to run!" Well, apparently not, especially if you have a certified load of a QB like Bryson Daily (6', 220) and can train your ABs to block straight-up downfield. Blake Horvath at Navy is also good; he passes slightly better and is faster.

I've been having a lot of fun watching these teams. And ND vs. Navy will be a war later on.

I'm a little late to the Heisman highjack part of the thread, but my early opinion is Travis Hunter is the best player in college football. If he keeps up this level of productive activity, it would be hard not to vote for him.

What if you had a whole offensive unit that did nothing but CPJ spread option and you rotated them in and out of the game

I just don't understand how Mr. Elite's D was so good at Florida. There has to be another explanation.

Basically - in all his successes, he came in and leveraged the recruits (and residual strategy/cohesion) left behind by the previous DC - who had moved on to bigger and better things. An example is DJ Durkin, DC at Florida under Muschamp - he had a top 5 defense every year he was there. When TFG arrived as DC, they dropped to 15th.

There were a couple of times where he held the line - didn't improve the defense, but didn't destroy it either. But those were in the vast minority.

So for me (see the link above), I think the explanation is that he knew enough to step in and coast when someone else had already built out a defense. But improving everything himself? That's a non-starter.

Conmen are effective because they manage to stay one step ahead of the people who get tipped off to their game. As much as I dislike UNC I actually feel sorry for CMB.

The Rich Rod Jacksonville State offense is pretty fun to watch when they are clicking but this QB cannot hit the broad side of a Waffle House tonight. Still, seems like Kennesaw State continues to just not be ready for FBS. They lost by double digits to their FCS opponent, they might be beelining for 0-12.

I just saw where Dabo is one win away from the all-time ACC coaching victory record, held by Bobby Bowden. Crazy to think he's been at Clempson for 17 years with a 10+ win per year average. He's goofy but dang if he's not a HoF coach.

Tragic clock management by UNLV's coach - might have just cost them a playoff spot. Cuse completed a pass to the UNLV 6 on 1st and goal with 0:57 left down by 7. UNLV has 3 timeouts at this point and does not burn one to conserve clock in case they get the ball back. Cuse runs the clock down to 0:27 before their next snap and ultimately ties it up with 0:23 remaining. UNLV then has the ball after the touchback at their 25 with 23 seconds and 3 timeouts and kneels the ball to go to overtime, extending a game where they've clearly been outmatched in every facet of the game aside from punt blocking.

Going into last night's games, teams that had to travel 2 time zones to play were 3-7, teams that had to travel 3 times zone for a game are 2-5. So the home team in these long distance travel games have a large advantage.

McCord is having a great year for Syracuse. He might be the best throwing QB in the ACC. He came into the game last night 1st in the nation in passing yds per game, 1st in completions per game and 4th in TD's passing and he basically hit his averages against UNLV. In 5 games he has over 1,800 yds passing, 17 TD's and 6 INT's with a 64% completion percentage.

He has alot of zip on his passes and he places them well.

I like McCord but he wasn't that great last night. Threw at least three passes directly into the hands of defenders that were dropped. If any of those were caught, UNLV wins. He had some good throws as well but just seemed kind of off all night overall.
