You have a first down on the one-yard line. Do you go into shotgun formation? Hand off? Pitch out wide? Throw it?
Or do you simply get up under center and hammer the ball into the end zone with a QB sneak?

The pitch was the absolute worst call they could have made. There are very few playcalls on 2nd and goal from the 1 that can lose you yards and that was one of them.

With the legalization of helping the runner now, it boggles my mind why anyone would do anything other than just hammer the ball into the end zone with a first down on the one yard line. Just hike it and cram the ball over the goal line with a full house backfield pushing from behind. Might take two or three attempts.

They wouldnt have scored on a QB sneak. Being at the 1 yard line against Ohio St is basically bad luck.

When they lose a yard after the first try they would start to question. Ask Penn State who had 4 tries against OSU.
Did they QB sneak it on all four tries? The initial surge of the offensive line would put it in the end zone. You cannot lose a yard on a QB sneak.

Edit: Penn State had it first and goal on the three. Three QB sneaks got it to the one before they tried a pass. I'm talking about a first down on the one yard line. If Texas moved it like Penn State did, they'd have been in the end zone on the second or third try.

Can’t  typo
Still don’t know what you’re talking about.

I’m talking about a play in which OSU ball carrier is fighting for yards and a teammate comes in to block another defender who’s closing in on the pile. After the hit the on the defender several other defenders continue to wrestle the ball carrier, still piling on the ball carrier, trying to rip the ball loose, and trying to knock him on the ground. I obviously could not hear the whistle but if the whistle was blown it was puzzling to me to only call one side for hitting after the play especially when Texas players were actually hitting longer after the whistle than anyone.

The OSU player pulled a Texas defender off the ball carrier after the whistle blew. That is an unsportsmanlike penalty and a 15 yard penalty.

You don’t see it often when the runner is not on the ground but it is still a penalty. I thought it was a weak call but within the official’s discretion.

Four shots at it with a full house backfield pushing from behind? You'd only have to make 9 inches a pop.
Ewers is not a powerful runner and their OL was pretty outclassed at the goal line. I could see possibly bringing in Arch, or just power running it downhill but I honestly doubt either of those were going to work either. They needed some creativity at that point. It didn't work out but I don't blame them for not choosing to just run into a brick wall.
