2021 USMNT World Cup Qualification

We’re in pot 2 for the draw, same as Mexico and Denmark. Canada is somehow in pot 4 (1 is the top tier, 2 is next, then 3, then 4). Qatar as the host country is in pot 1.

The good news:
  • we qualified
  • no playoff for us
  • we're building up some endurance playing sick and with dead legs
  • we'll have some depth back for November.
  • we already have some depth.
  • we have several months to work out what issues we do have
The frustrating news:
  • We should be able to beat Costa Rica away, even with their best lineup
  • This wasn't their best lineup
  • Mexico gets a broadcast. Canada gets broadcast. We don't even get Univision
  • even though we have some depth, there are some players we need to rotate more
There are some interesting draws possible.

USMNT has never won a WCQ in Costa Rica. In the game yesterday the USMNT didn’t even try. Had the team walked from place to place. Compare that to the CR teens who were trying to earn their way on the roster and pumped to play for the national team at home.

Broadcast was Paramount+, the same as all away WCQ.

The streaming wars are a PITA where I now cant watch games. For soccer, you need ESPN+, Paramount+, and Peacock or FUBU.

I can’t watch some GT games and most Braves games because of Bally Sports.

Seems like a winnable group. I like us vs. England.

I want Ukraine to make the WC but don’t want us to play them to open. It’ll be hard to beat them with the world behind them.

Time slots are great. Options are 5a ET, 8a ET, 11a ET, or 2p ET. We landed two 11a ET and one 2p ET. We avoid the 5a slots.
