The NCAA added to the problem by granting everyone a free year of eligibility due to Covid19. If the situation was so severe, they should have just cancelled the season and told everyone, it's too bad but that is life and you just lost one year of football eligibility. It was dumb to grant the free year to everyone. This transfer portal deal is out of hand and should be allowed only in extreme circumstances. If you are not happy then quit and make your own way somewhere else. This all falls in line with the victimization mentality that is overtaking modern society.

Didn’t realize we had 15 guys in the portal but I’m guessing some tough conversations were had.
I'm sure you're right. I'm also sure it's not a coincidence that most of the teams with high numbers in the portal have gone through coaching changes in the last few years.
  • Western Kentucky - 2019 Tyson Helton
  • Tennessee - 2021 Josh Heupel
  • Memphis - 2019 Ryan Silverfield (replaced Mike Norvell)
  • Kansas - 2019 Les Miles
  • GT - 2019 Geoff Collins
  • UNC - 2019 Mack Brown
  • Mississippi State - 2020 Mike Leach
  • Vanderbilt - 2021 Clark Lea
  • USF - 2020 Jeff Scott
  • FSU - 2020 Mike Norvell
  • TTU - 2019 Matt Wells
  • Arizona - 2021 Jeff Fisch
  • Washington State - 2020 Nick Rolovich
  • Northern Illinois - 2019 Thomas Hammock
I'm sure not all of those transfers are just due to the new coaches. And certainly there are places where they've had coaching changes and lower attrition. But it makes sense that when a new coach comes in that over the next few years you would expect some higher level of attrition. Oddly the only team on the list in that tweet that did NOT have a coaching change was TCU. Interestingly the teams with the most players transferring in also appear, in most cases (though not all), to be ones who have had coaching changes in the last few years.

If full stands are allowed for games this year can we finally put 45-50,000 actual TECH fans in the seats. People don’t realize how important attendance is. since this is a recruiting thread, ask yourself this:
what kid wants to play for a team struggling to put 35,000 people in the seats.
The short answer is NO. Not anytime soon anyway.

Would be nice but it won't happen worst thing we did was go from 44,000 seats to 55,000, money could have been spent on better things for the players and coaches . It would be better if when played teams like uga to have 30,000 to 35,000 Tech fans and only 14,000 to 9,000 uga fans , not like it is now with 30,000 tech fans and 25,000 uga fans.

100% correct. Expanding BDS just meant more empty seats for most games and more visiting fans for the rest. IIWII

BDS was expanded at O'Leary's insistence to help recruiting. Recruits do their visits when the stands are empty, and a larger stadium is more impressive. So the expansion is not the "worst thing we did."

Ok but they also do it at games and I'm sure they are just impressed when 1/3 of the seats are empty.

I am not bothered by the expansion of BDS so much as the configuration of the gold seats seats behind the visitor bench. They are rarely full and are right across of the TV cameras, making it look like we don't have anyone in the stadium even when the West stands are full.
