It could be almost anyone in the ACCCG. Wake Forest or BC May be the only hope for a playoff appearance. But there are not near as many great teams as usual.
I don't think the ACC has a chance at getting into the playoffs this year. The top ranked ACC team in this week's AP poll is NC State at 23 (WF is at 24, Clemson is at 25).

Likely playoff suspects:

SEC - Alabama and GA (hate it but unless they stumble against Florida or Auburn, just don't see a loss until SEC Championship Game including against us)
Big 12 - likely Oklahoma
Big 10 or Pac 12 - Michigan, Penn State, Ohio St, Oregon, etc. (pick 1)
Independents - Cincinnati, ND, BYU (pick 1 maybe..)

Cincy and ND play this week. The winner of that game is going to have a real shot at a CFP slot.

OK and OR both look like teams that will take a loss at some point. They may need to go undefeated to get a bid.

in the Big 10 you have Iowa undeafeated in the West and you have 4 teams (and Ohio St is not one of them) undefeated in the East - MI, MI ST, Penn St, MD. Penn St and Iowa play in 2 weeks. If anyone gets through the B10 East undefeated they will be in, there is a pretty good chance a 1 loss team from the B10 East is getting in.

If AL and UGA can both make it to the SEC CG undeated they will both get CFP slots regardless of the outcome of the game.

Alabama is a shoe in
GA gets in even with one loss before the SECCG
The rest of the spots are open. To big a gap between 1 and 2 this year, and the gap to 3 is massive.

Spot on. If Florida beats Ugag, chances are Alabama May be the only undefeated team in the country and everyone else could have one or two losses.
But we’re only a third through.

Totally disagree with that. If uga loses a game and then loses to Alabama, they're done.

Too early to say for sure. If there's ever a year a 2 loss team makes the playoffs, this is it. It just feels like there aren't going to be many 1 loss or undefeated teams when the season is over. A lot of young/new QBs out there on the major playoff contending teams.

I can't believe there won't be 4 undefeated or 1-loss teams. Just don't see that happening.

Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Ohio State, Michigan, Iowa, Penn State, Michigan State, Oregon, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Cincinnati, Wake Forest and Boston College are all currently in the playoff picture and very well could finish their years undefeated or with 1 loss. The only way a 2 loss team gets in is if one of the B1G or SEC teams has 2 losses going into the championship game and beats an undefeated team in the CG, and there are only 3 teams on that list of 18 who are undefeated or have 1 loss. The only way the ACC gets a team in this year is for WF or BC to go undefeated and all the other P5 champs to have at least 1 loss.

The odds of a 2 loss team getting in are slim to none, and Ohio State has the only shot of getting in under that scenario. But they would need Iowa to be undefeated going to the B1GCG, and would have to lose to a non-division opponent which would be Nebraska. For Georgia to get in as a 2 loss they would have to lose to Arkansas this week and to us, and then beat undefeated Alabama/Arkansas/Ole Miss in the SECCG. Neither Ohio State or Georgia can afford to lose to a division opponent (Florida for uGAG, UM/MSU/PSU for Ohio State) because then that team would have to lose at least 2 conference games for them to win the division. And that makes the “quality” of the loss worse.

I’m thinking Florida beats Uga, then Bama in SEC title rematch, both Bama and Fl get in final 4 with one loss and play a third game as 2 and 3 seed.
