I see your point. The naming of storms indicates a storm has reached tropical storm status at the NHC. More names = more storms that reach that level. While not a direct relationship to climate change, it is one of the indicators, like 118 degree days in Portland, Oregon.

This chart is interesting in a scary way. It does not include 2020.

Maybe I am wrong, but isn't the debate over the consequences and causes, not the facts?

While there has been some fiddling with data by some organizations to support their point of view, it has been my impression for some time that the fact that the earth is warming is fairly well established. I do think there is an argument as to how much it is warming, but warming appears to be real.

I thought the debate was over the causes (how much is man-made, how much is cyclic global climate change independent of man, how much is attributable to the sun's output, etc). I also thought there was even MORE intense debate over whether the predictions so often bandied about are accurate are scare-mongering.

What am I missing?

Without getting into what would by default end up being a political argument, not only is the degree of warming (if indeed true) debatable, so are the causes (if any), and the length of time over which the warming can be expected to continue. There is definitely no consensus on any of this. I refer you to former Tech professor and chair of the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Tech., who though once a star on the climate control stage, was "debunked" when she went against the climate "elite"

I’m glad all my oceanographic and meteorological work was narrowly constrained to tactical products of which there was little debate. I could not have survived in a world where data was manipulated to prove a theory. Now that I typed that I realize how naive that is. I live in a business world where data is constantly manipulated for proof/support of whatever agenda is desired. Lies, damned lies & financials (statistics), correct?

For anybody who lives in Florida, we have our first tropical storm of the season forming and the current track is headed that way. Could be a doosey. Its far enough away (5 days) that it still has a chance to turn further north and miss landfall in the US.

Poor PG&E. Looks like they're once again responsible for some of the fires out west. After filing for bankruptcy and suffering defeats in many legal actions, I'm surprised they haven't just shut the company down and let all their customers sit in the dark. I guess they have taken their one real other option - charge their customers for all these expenses. People pay 30c/KWh out west! Insane.

I work with scientist. I just came across a report they did that was technically correct in words yet purposely distorts the truth by data used, data left out, and data not gathered.

I do not believe in the science and experts anymore or the news for either side of any issue ... only data and a deep dive of understanding even in my limited capacity.

I have dove into racial issues data, healthcare data, capitalism/socialism data, etc... I feel informed and can see the mis-truths at best and lies at worst on both sides.
