If you're a recruiting and college football fan, some of these names will be a blast from the past. This is a great read and kinda brings home of the point of how much of a crapshoot recruiting is. GT's 2007 recruiting class is often cited around here for various reasons, one of which is the some of the elite talent we were able to bring in. 2 names from that class make this list:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/sf/sports/wp/2017/01/29/following-the-signs/

76. Derrick Morgan, DE

Commitment: Georgia Tech

The ACC's defensive player of the year in 2009, Morgan left school a year early and was the Titans' first-round pick in 2010. He has been a regular starter there in 91 games.

(Derrick makes another appearance on the list if you read Willy Korn's update)

84. Morgan Burnett, DB

Commitment: Georgia Tech

Burnett left school a year early and was drafted in the third round in 2010 by the Packers. He has appeared in 90 NFL games and has been a regular starter for Green Bay.

Too many players on this died so young. Sad to see.

Quite a few arrests. Plenty of injuries. Lots of salesmen.

If you're a top 100 player, all the more reason to go to GT. Get that degree + the best shot at making the NFL! (logically flawed stats are my specialty)

That's why I don't get too hyped up on recruiting. Some simply peak @ 18 and some don't have the work ethic to be successful. Too be fair also, some just get injured too much, which is certainly not their fault just bad luck.

So many with no back up plan if football doesn't work out. They're sold a bill of goods during recruiting but they, themselves, are their own worst enemies. None of them think they'll be the guy who doesn't work out. Even if you're lucky and make the NFL, those careers are notoriously short. You gotta have something else planned for life after football.

This is a blast from the past. I remember everybody getting hyped up about him.

15. Noel Devine, RB

Commitment: West Virginia

A hightly touted prospect with ties to Deion Sanders, Devine was undrafted in 2011. He played briefly in the CFL and returned to school last year to finish his degree.

The idolatry (is that the word) of 17 / 18 year olds is almost sinful.

I would like, every recruiting season, for responsible media outlets to not only do a rundown on that day's recruits that signed, but a comparable report of the same from 4 years earlier.

For the sad stories in the article, where does a lot of the blame go? H S coaches, parents, us as fans, media, players themselves, pure dumb luck with injuries?

Everything you need to know about the difference between Georgia Tech and the Dwags right here:

Commitment: Georgia

38. Aron White, TE
A team leader, White was the backup tight end as a senior. He had a brief stint on the Falcons' offseason roster but never played in a game.

81. Caleb King, RB

King was academically inelgible for his senior season and was later signed as an undrafted free agent by the Vikings. He was active for one game but was released shortly after an arrest on assault charges.

Commitment: Georgia Tech

76. Derrick Morgan, DE
The ACC's defensive player of the year in 2009, Morgan left school a year early and was the Titans' first-round pick in 2010. He has been a regular starter there in 91 games.

Quite possibly one of the most entertaining recruiting highlight films I've ever seen. Look it up when you get the chance...would have been an amazing AB.

His story is actually really sad. Both of his parents died of AIDS before he was 10. He had a lot of people trying to ride his coattails when they realized he was a special talent. Really F'd with his head. Deion Sanders tried to take him out of Florida away from those people and moved him out to Texas. Ended taking Deion's wife's car without permission to the airport so he could fly back to Florida. He was being recruited by pretty much every major school...Deion wanted him to go to prep school for a year, but ended up at WVU. Actually had a good career there.

Went undrafted and played in the CFL. To Devine's credit, he's back at WVU finishing up his degree. Hopefully he becomes a good story years from now.
