Getting beaten by a defender (turned a guy loose) or confused by a defensive front (blocked the wrong guy) is not purely indicative of coaching or lack thereof. The other guy is doing his damndest to beat you too. No qualms with frustration over not being lined up right.
The classy way in which CPJ left and the timing he chose to do so can not be understated. Choosing to retire instead of being fired also helps keep down divisions in the fanbase at least to the extent that a new hire HAD to be made and continuing as before was not an option. Defense still...

Didn't intend to suggest we do any of it. Just the opposite, in fact. What I saw in your comment was that a program like ND with lots of national clout still pours TONS of effort into recruiting (The list you provided was fascinating) and I don't think we have the budget or manpower to come...
I was just trying to point out that they do all of what you outlined even though they also have an extremely well known brand and a much better national perception of relevance in football which would make one think recruiting would be easier.
I'll never understand this train of thought. As if CPJ tolerates losing to an extent but then all bets are off. The man wants to win ALL THE TIME. Like any other red-blooded American. Which is also equally silly as an argument against a willingness to tolerate losing.
