I agree. Clearly the current situation is untenable and the NCAA has proven completely inept at managing this fiasco. When you don’t adequately manage yourself, the government will do it for you. For good or bad…
And the issue of scholarships as a form of payment does not seem to be the defining issue of an employee for the NLRB. Remember the ruling is for Dartmouth and Ivys do not give athletic scholarships
I’m not sure we are comparing apples to apples.
Students who receive academic scholarships are not required to work according to institutional rules (eg. 20 hrs or 40 hrs per week of mandated study time) or other standards that don’t apply to the general student population. If you are...
You are correct leatherneckjacket, they are not regular students. That is the problem. We want to think they are and act like they are but treat them like they’re not. You cannot live in these 2 worlds at the same time per the NLRB
When you treat athletes like a special or protected class with:
1) different admission criteria
2) specialized / restricted schedules
3) sequestration from the general student population with housing and dining facilities
4) opportunities for income that arise only by association with and while...
Hire DM as OC for 2 yrs and tell him the head coaching job is his if the offense shows substantial improvement and GC is processed. Tell GC he can stay on as HC if he rights the ship (unlikely) but would be retained as branding director and head of recruiting if the program doesn’t improve...
Tonight we beat UNC, the refs, and two years of demons. If the team can keep their focus and just play as hard next week as they did tonight, I’ll start to believe. Irrespective, I was so proud of our team tonight!!! Gooooooo Jackets!!!!!!!!!
Clearly a short term loss for the team but hopefully a long term success for Chris and the program. This is another example of what Tech is selling - education with football, graduation, and competitive employment with 40 yrs of success. Best of luck to this young man
Tony Hollings. Wow!! What could’ve been. Buried on the defensive depth chart until he asked to play running back. Loved it every time he touched the ball...
VT at GT 2009 was beyond crazy and loud. Would donate a kidney to feel that at least once every year.
Clemson at GT 1984. Sitting in north end zone bleacher seats with trash and cups raining out of the stands onto the field. Insane down there. Was a high school senior visiting that wknd...
Don’t think you can directly connect seating to the west stands because of building code issues. To do that would be to “renovate” the west stands which would mean coming up to current code for that entire structure.
Can the band really help or hurt? Remember the apparent effect the ND band had on our offense at South Bend last year? They played basically until the ball was snapped on every one of our offensive plays. It seemed to contribute significantly to the difficulty getting our plays called. Damn...
