The world was black and white. Those are color pictures of a black and white world. World didn't begin turning color until the early '60s, gradually. Mostly all in color by around '66.

I don't believe there are very many intentionally biased refs. There are of course a few, because nothing in life is clear of crookedness. But for the most part, refs are disinterested arbiters of various competencies.

As I said when VT only had to go 9 yards to get a first down because of the misplacement of the sticks, somebody should be watching a TV monitor and alerting the coach to things like this. He can't see it from the sideline. Either we don't have anyone doing that, or they're not doing their job...
