Bullpen still frightens me. I think our starters will keep it very close into the 5/6 inning in 2 of 3 games. With strong bullpen efforts, we could win both of those close games. I fear we can’t expect that.

There’s a difference between “being first” and being competitive. We were generally competitive with top programs. As recently as 2016 we were top 20.
To look at what happens when a college gives up on its major sport, look (for example) at Tulane, which de-emphasized athletics 50 years ago...
I’ve had that same thought. So much of journalism, and especially sports journalism, is just some person spouting their opinions, which are often no better (and frequently much worse) than what is posted on these message boards.
They are, but we still have to play …well, let’s just sat we swept two teams who might fight it out for last place. Nevertheless our pitching is getting better.
