  1. 2023 Holiday Break - GT in the Diamond Head Classic

Had we been shooting the ball better, I think Sacko would have been an option to put on Blackshear. But since we were having so much trouble scoring the ball, I think Stoudamire just couldn't see handicapping the O any more than it was already.
  2. 2023 Holiday Break - GT in the Diamond Head Classic

Nevada is just very good and their coach is also really good and he out-coached us last night. Blackshear was just a bad match-up for us. But we were right there to win that game. He hung close to them the entire game. We needed just decent shooting from someone other than Ndongo (Oh and...
  3. 2023 Holiday Break - GT in the Diamond Head Classic

Merry Christmas everyone! Lucas put up 25 in their game against TCU, averaging over 17ppg. Definitely not a career night for him. I thought we kept him in check, relatively. His twenty did not beat us. Blackshear did a Michael Jordan on us. He was playing with us. The one guy we had that...
  4. 2023 Holiday Break - GT in the Diamond Head Classic

BTW, this has popped into my head more than once watching our coach on the sidelines, when he is stressing over the proceedings and wearing that on his face, he rocks and todders, he reminds me of ... ! Redd Foxx!
  5. 2023 Holiday Break - GT in the Diamond Head Classic

Hawaii held the lead for 16 seconds the entire game. Even when we were not scoring I never felt like we would lose that game. The offense stagnated during the dry stretch. There was no movement off the ball. It was the second game in two days and the team just looked gassed to me during...
  6. 2023 Holiday Break - GT in the Diamond Head Classic

It should also give Terry a chance to finish up his PhD degree :giggle: I wonder how the roster will shake out to get to 13?
  7. 2023 Holiday Break - GT in the Diamond Head Classic

That expression suggested disgust, exasperation and acid reflux.
  8. 2023 Holiday Break - GT in the Diamond Head Classic

With 5 minutes to go down double digits, I felt we were dead. UMass's defense was pretty much stuffing us, especially early in each half. Deebo helped us in the first half and Kyle really showed some sweet shooting in the second half. We looked better in transition (certainly Ndongo did) as I...
  9. 2023 Holiday Break - GT in the Diamond Head Classic

We are seeing inconsistent play from key guys: Good games, invisible games and bad games. I think it likely that the talented inexperienced players will have more frequent good games as we go. But we'll have to see if the rugged ACC schedule wears-down and breaks the confidence of some...
  10. Excuse my ignorance ... as usual...

Thanks for the responses. I'm looking at the CBS sports MBB scores page. The listed records of these schools are irregular. The Toros don't have a record, The Firebirds are 0-1, The Fighting Saints are 0-1, The Golden Eagles are 0-1, etc. That means they haven't played other Div 1 schools?

I'm looking at NCAA scores and there seem to be several teams playing non-school affiliated clubs? Kennesaw St v. Bearcats, George Mason vs. The Eagles, Central Michigan Vs. The Panthers, Northwestern St Vs. The Knights, Georgia St. Vs Another Eagles squad, Southern U vs. Wildcats, Oral...

Did the Citadel just SMOKE Notre Dame at Home?
  13. 12/16: GT vs. Penn State at The Garden

In the last three minutes there were two blown goaltending calls that went Penn St's way (one on a clean block by Gapare and another where a Penn St. defender blocked the ball after the ball his the glass but was ruled a block). But the one that killed me was on an offensive rebound that went...
  14. GT Hoops General Topics

Coming out of the the Penn St game, according to the TeamRankings site, our offensive and defensive efficiency ratings (out of 362 teams): 232 Off 101 Def
  15. 12/16: GT vs. Penn State at The Garden

A shout-out to Penn State for being the best screening team I've seen in a while. It was one solid screen after another and our guys could only dip below the screen or switch. If they had some bigs who could score on a roll, they would have feaster on us.
  16. 12/16: GT vs. Penn State at The Garden

That is not what I saw. Penn State was able to implement full court pressure to make up a deficit at the end of regulation. They exerted and played with more energy than we did at the end of regulation. Our shooting percentage dipped in each period. Our rebounding, especially offensive...
  17. 12/16: GT vs. Penn State at The Garden

The way we finished the game took a lot of luster off that win for me. We faded pretty badly, I thought our players (except for Ndongo) were really gassed and no veteran stepped up to make a big shot to avoid OT. But there was plenty of good during that game, the bad finish notwithstanding...
  18. What has surprised you so far this year?

Beating Duke is an obvious one, right? How about Kelly's talent on the boards? Where did that come from? George being a starter? Where did Coleman's shot go? Abram playing Solo Poole-level wild and getting 3 days in the dog house? Playing so much worse on the road than at home?
  19. 12/9: MBB vs Alabama A&M

My early season impressions of Claude are that he is fine against mid-major front courts but is physically overmatched against high major talent. He is not quite big enough or explosive enough against high major bigs. He's serviceable on the boards but I don't think he is a scorer at the ACC...
  20. 12/9: MBB vs Alabama A&M

Abram has plenty of physical tools and skills. And to his credit he did dig-in defensively last night. He has the size-strength-quickness to be an impact defender if he so chooses. But he shows his immaturity on the court. He, like Gapare, want to take the game over every time they have the...
